Gold Dancer Brings Top Price At Arqana’s Grand Steeple Sale

Doctor Dino (Fr)'s Gold Dancer (Fr) (lot 7) was the most expensive lot at Arqana's Grand Steeple Sale when selling to PB Bloodstock, Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins on Wednesday.

Consigned by Ecurie Arnaud Chaille-Chaille, the 4-year-old gelding won his second start over hurdles at Compiegne and made €250,000. The same buyers also snapped up debut-winning jumper Karia Des Blaises (Fr) (Jeu St Eloi {Fr}) (lot 3) for €130,000 from the draft of Emmanuel Clayeux.

Kaleosun (Fr) (No Risk At All {Fr}) (lot 4) was second on the buyers' sheet at €215,000. Cava Associates' Cecile Adonias picked up the 3-year-old from the Alain Couetil stable.

Rounding out the quintet, Batman Girac (Fr) (Bathyrhon {Ger}) (lot 2), from the consignment of Ecurie Erwan Grall, made €150,000 on the bid of Highflyer Bloodstock; and lot 6, the Ecurie Nicolas de Lageneste-consigned Illiko Des Plans (Fr) (Cokoriko {Fr}), made the same amount when acquired by Guy Petit.

Of the seven lots offered, five sold for an aggregate of €895,000.

Godolphin Snaps Up Dubawi Colt For 800k At Arqana

The fireworks continued at Arqana in the evening, as an Oak Tree Farm-consigned Dubawi (Ire) colt (lot 180) made €800,000 on the bid of Godolphin. The February-foaled bay is out of a Kingman (GB) half-sister to stakes winner and Group 1 producer Prudenzia (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) and G3 Prix de Lutece heroine Pacifique (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). Previously a €150,000 Arqana October Yearling Sale alum, the colt's relatives include Group 1-winning fillies Magic Wand (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and G1 Irish Oaks heroine Chicquita (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}).

Siyouni Colt Brings 1.2 Million Euros at Arqana Breeze-Up

Lot 145, a son of Siyouni (Fr) and the Lope De Vega (Ire) mare Isabel De Urbina (Ire), became the most expensive yearling of Saturday's Arqana Breeze-Up session to that point, when selling for €1.2 million to Oliver St Lawrence on behalf of Bahraini buyers. Consigned by Brendan Holland's Grove Stud, the bay colt's dam won twice at listed level, and is a full-sister to dual group winner Manuela De Vega (Ire), who was also second in the G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern. Grove Stud picked up the Merriebelle Irish Farm-bred for €200,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale in 2022.

Uncle Mo Colt Takes The Lead at Arqana at 600,000 Euros

There was plenty of talk about Powerstown Stud's son of Uncle Mo ahead of the Arqana Breeze-up Sale, and the colt shot to the top of the leaderboard when selling to Coolmore for €600,000.

Offered as lot 51, the son of the multiple graded stakes winner Summer Applause (Harlan's Holiday) had been bought by Tom Whitehead for $165,000 at Keeneland last September.

Signing the ticket on behalf of Coolmore, agent Jamie McCalmont confirmed that the colt would enter training with Todd Pletcher.
