Aqueduct’s Belmont at the Big A Card Cancelled Saturday Due to Weather

Live racing has been cancelled Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack as hazardous weather is forecasted for the area, the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) announced in a release late Friday afternoon. High winds and significant rainfall are expected in the New York metropolitan area and are expected to create inclement weather conditions on Saturday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is calling for sustained high winds with gusts up to 40 MPH and heavy rainfall throughout the day. Saturday's race card for the Belmont at the Big A meet was scheduled to have 10 live races, including the GIII Noble Damsel S. at a mile on the turf for fillies and mares ages 3/up. That race, as well as the listed Ashley T. Cole S., will be brought back on Friday, Sept. 29 with entries to be taken on Sunday.

Aqueduct will remain open for simulcasting on Saturday, with live racing scheduled to resume Sunday at 1:05 p.m. ET.

East Coast Weather Cancellations Due To Storm

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) canceled Saturday's live racing program at Aqueduct Racetrack due to a powerful winter storm forecast that was set to impact the New York City metropolitan area throughout the day.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for the downstate region and the NWS forecast, which aligns with NYRA's independent weather services, called for accumulating snow with sustained high winds and gusts up to 50 mph.

Saturday's featured $100,000 Correction S. will be brought back for Saturday, Mar. 19. Aqueduct was to remain open for simulcasting, while live racing is expected to resume Sunday, Mar. 13 with a nine-race card featuring the $100,000 Damon Runyon. First post on Sunday is 1:20 p.m. ET.

Similar conditions farther south also forced the cancellation of live racing at Laurel Park outside of Baltimore. Full-card simulcasting remained open and live racing is set to resume there Sunday at 12:40 p.m. ET with nine races programmed.
