Sammes Tabbed Epsom GM, Crespi Named Goodwood Racecourse Director

Tom Sammes has been appointed as the new General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse while James Crespi returns as the new Racecourse Director of Goodwood Racecourse after eight years away from the Goodwood Estate.

Sammes, 33, has been employed as Head of Strategy at The Jockey Club since September 2021, leading commercial strategic projects as well as planning to drive long-term revenue growth for the business. A graduate of Bristol University, he worked previously in similar roles in golf for the PGA European Tour and the Ryder Cup.

He takes up his position at Epsom Downs, effective immediately, working alongside Crespi ahead of the latter's move to Goodwood Racecourse in mid-June, after the conclusion of The Derby Festival.

James is no stranger to West Sussex having previously spent 10 years at the Goodwood Estate working across the motor sport and music events before becoming General Manager at Goodwood Racecourse. After a spell as Chief Operating Officer at West Wittering Estate PLC, Crespi became the General Manager of Epsom Racecourse as part of The Jockey Club.

Crespi, who is replacing the outgoing Jon Barnett, will take up his position June 19.

Molly Dingwall Appointed Haydock GM

The Jockey Club has appointed Molly Dingwall as the new General Manager of Haydock Park Racecourse. Over four years as the GM of Carlisle since May 2018, Dingwall played a pivotal role in strengthening ties with the local community and promoting its broad range of racedays, including the unique Ladies Night fixture each August. Dingwall will take over as GM at Haydock in the coming weeks, while The Jockey Club will begin the process to recruit a new General Manager at Carlisle immediately.

“Anyone who has met Molly will know the energy, enthusiasm and passion she has for horseracing and I'm really looking forward to her taking over at Haydock Park, which has a catchment area full of really knowledgeable sports fans and loyal racegoers,” said Dickon White, North West Regional Director at The Jockey Club. “Running a dual Flat and Jumps track provides extra challenges and Molly's experience of this at Carlisle will prove invaluable as she takes on her new role.”

She launched her career with The Jockey Club as a Business Development Executive in 2015 and was appointed Group Trainee General Manager the following year.

Lauren Morgan Named Director of Bloodstock at Buckland Sales

Lauren Morgan has joined Buckland Sales Agency as Director of Bloodstock. In her new role, she will handle client relations, horse evaluations and other bloodstock services for the consignment agency.

Morgan, who is a native of Troy, Michigan, most recently worked for Vinery Sales as a Sales and Bloodstock Consultant. Prior to that, she handled client relations and bloodstock services for Darby Dan Farm.

Morgan is a graduate of Michigan State University, during which time she completed an internship with Shadwell Farm in Lexington, Kentucky and fell in love with the Bluegrass and Kentucky's Thoroughbred industry.

“I made it a point to gain as much experience as I could in all aspects of the industry after graduating college,” she said. “I felt it was necessary to understand the importance of every job in the business, which helps me be well-rounded and appreciative of the roles that we all play in the lives of these horses. I grew to love sales and knew that I had found my niche when I started to develop my own client base. The personal relationships I have formed with my clients and seeing all of their hard work pay off in the sales ring is what makes me love this part of the business. My clients are like family and when they succeed, there is no greater feeling.”

Buckland Sales' principal Zach Madden launched the consignment agency in 2015.

“Horsemanship is such a huge part of our industry,” Madden said. “Over the 10 years I worked at Three Chimneys, the first seven of those were spent in the barn, working hands-on with horses. You can't put a number value on that kind of experience–it's exponential. Lauren has worked incredibly hard to gain hands-on experience with some of the best operations in the game. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her on our team and I am very excited for Buckland's future.”
