BGFC Hosts Virtual Auction and Live Gala

Blue Grass Farms Charities (BGFC), which provides health and human services to people working on Central Kentucky's Thoroughbred farms, will host both a virtual auction and an in-person gala event in October.

The 2nd Annual Relics and Rarities from the Bluegrass Region Virtual Auction will begin Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and end Nov. 1, also at 7 p.m. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to bid on unique, rare, and fun items from area farms and businesses. Text BGFC at 76278 to connect and be a part of the auction.

“We have a great lineup of items,” said BGFC director Julie Kwasniewski. “Many are from the farms such as Authentic' s halter and Tapit's shoes. Included in the list of items are signed Maker's Mark and hard-to-find bourbons, area trips and experiences, and beautiful equine art.”

BGFC will also host its annual gala event Oct. 29 at Lexington's Limestone Hall located in the Old Courthouse Square, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  The courthouse will be decorated and the evening will feature live music, catering, and a costume contest.

“Since 2019 we have been planning this gala,” said Kwasniewski. “Why not come knowing that we have been preparing for a fun, COVID-19-safe party for 1 1/2 years. Yes, wear a mask. It's a Halloween party!”

Costumes are encouraged but not required. Tickets are $125 per person or $1,000 for table of eight, available at bgfcky.org or 859.219.0910.

Kentucky Derby Museum to Hold Annual Gala

The Kentucky Derby Museum is proceeding with arrangements for its annual gala, which raises funds for the non-profit organization and had to be canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Presented by Central Bank & Trust Co, the Friday, Apr. 23 event will feature an evening of dinner and dancing, all held safely under COVID-19 protocols.

This marks the 34th year for the event, which is the museum's largest annual fundraising effort.

“Kentucky Derby 147 is on, and so is our gala,” said Patrick Armstrong, president & CEO of the Derby Museum. “This decision was made carefully and with much discussion between museum staff and our Board of Directors. It has been a tough year financially for the museum, like many other non-profit organizations. But tourism is slowly bouncing back. We are seeing a nice flow of guests through the museum daily, and feel that people are ready to safely celebrate the Kentucky Derby.”

Money raised through ticket sales helps support the museum's curatorial and educational programs. Tickets, tables, and sponsorship packages are available at DerbyMuseum.org or by contacting Sheridan Gates at sgates@derbymuseum.org.
