Buick, Doyle, Kirby In Ballydoyle Derby Reckoning

Aidan O’Brien has a top squad of British-based jockeys at the ready for his team of seven potential G1 Investec Derby runners, among them William Buick, James Doyle and Adam Kirby. Ryan Moore will have first choice of whatever the Ballydoyle master opts to leave in the race, but with coronavirus health restrictions continuing to make it complicated for riders to travel across Europe, as at Royal Ascot and with the Guineas O’Brien’s Irish-based riders are unlikely to travel.

“We don’t know what Ryan will ride. He’ll always make that decision late,” said O’Brien. “He’ll look at the draws, we’ll tell him what we think might happen, but it’s been different this year because Ryan isn’t [working at Ballydoyle]. He’ll make his decision late and then we’ll put everyone else on what we think will suit.”

O’Brien’s shortest-priced Derby entrant at this early stage is the G3 Hampton Court S. winner Russian Emperor (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) as the general 6-1 third choice, while Mogul (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is nipping at his heels at 7-1.

O’Brien To Split Peaceful, Love

Aidan O’Brien is likely to split his 1000 Guineas winners Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), with the former, the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner, pencilled in for Sunday’s G1 Prix de Diane and the latter, the G1 1000 Guineas winner, likely for the G1 Investec Oaks on July 4.

“I was talking to the lads [John Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor] this morning and it looks like Love, Passion (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Ennistymon (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will go to Epsom,” said O’Brien. “Peaceful might go to the Diane. That’s what we’re thinking at the moment anyway. The Diane is worth a lot of money.

“I think it’s a question of splitting them up–that’s the way the lads are thinking at the moment and you can’t blame them for that. The other two going to Epsom with Love are very good fillies. One of them was second and the other one was third in the Ribblesdale, so they are both very good fillies.”

Love has been on the shelf since winning the 1000 Guineas three weeks ago, and O’Brien said she is in good form.

“Everything has gone well with Love,” he said. “Everyone who rides her has been very happy and the plan has always been to take her for the Guineas and then go to the Oaks. We’ve always felt she’d be very comfortable going up in trip, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Classic Winner Kameko Tops 17 Early Entrants For Saturday’s Investec Derby

QIPCO 2,000 Guineas hero Kameko was the headline act amongst the 17 entries submitted Monday for Saturday's Group 1 Investec Derby at Epsom, as he seeks to double up his Classic success.

The son of Kitten's Joy will be partnered by regular rider Oisin Murphy for trainer Andrew Balding.

The pair look to face a stiff challenge, most notably from impressive Lingfield Derby-trial winner English King, who will be the mount of Frankie Dettori. He won't be the only threat, however.

As is customary, Aidan O'Brien has entered a sizeable raiding team from Ireland including Mogul, Vatican City and Royal Ascot hero Russian Emperor. It will be fascinating to see which mount their number one rider Ryan Moore will be on board, and Saturday's impressive nine-length maiden winner Serpentine is among the possibilities.

Fairy-tale entrant Pyledriver will aim to complete his own Cinderella story; having been unsold at 10,000 guineas at the sales as a 2-year-old, before winning at Royal Ascot a fortnight ago. Veteran rider Martin Dwyer partners him, and will be looking to emulate his win in the race 14 years ago aboard Sir Percy.

Amhran Na Bhfiann, Armory, Emissary, Gold Maze, Highland Chief, Khalifa Set, Max Vega, Mohican Heights, Mythical, Serpentine and Worthily complete the entries.

In the Investec Oaks Aidan O'Brien holds a strong hand with four entrants – Peaceful, Passion, Ennistymon and most notably QIPCO 1000 Guineas heroine Love.

She could face up to 10 rivals, with hugely impressive Ribblesdale Stakes winner Frankly Darling appearing the most dangerous contender; especially as she's being handled by the red-hot Frankie Dettori and John Gosden partnership.

Bharani Star, Dubai Love, Gold Wand, Oriental Mystique, Queen Daenerys and Tiempo Vuela make up the other entries.

Love One of 11 for Investec Oaks

Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), winner of the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas, heads 11 entries for the G1 Investec Oaks at Epsom on Saturday. The daughter of Galileo has headed the ante-post market since her impressive victory by 4 1/4 lengths over the Rowley Mile. Love bids to become the first filly since Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in 2016 to win both Classics. She is one of four possibles from the Aidan O’Brien stable as the Ballydoyle handler goes for a seventh Oaks success.

O’Brien’s other fillies in the mix are the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Ennistymon (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Passion (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who were second and third, respectively, in the G2 Ribblesdale S. at Ascot.

Love’s main market rival is the Ribblesdale winner Frankly Darling (GB) (Frankel {GB}), trained by John Gosden. The Frankel filly has no stamina concerns after she took that Group 1 contest over a mile and a half in good style. Tiempo Vuela (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) is a second entry from the Gosden stable. Gosden and O’Brien have dominated the last six runnings of Epsom’s fillies’ Classic, with three wins each.

Roger Varian is two-handed at this stage, with Gold Wand (Ire) (Golden Horn {GB}) and SP Queen Daenerys (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), while the 11 is completed by Bharani Star (Ger) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) (Peter Chapple-Hyam), SW & GSP Dubai Love (GB) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) (Saeed bin Suroor) and Oriental Mystique (GB) (Kingman {GB}) (David Simcock).
