Stradivarius And A’Ali Among Star Names On Show At TBA Stallion Parade

Exciting young sires A'Ali (Ire), Caturra (Ire) and Stradivarius (Ire) will feature among the galaxy of stars on show at the 2024 Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Flat Stallion Parade at Tattersalls in Newmarket on Thursday, February 1.

The parade is typically limited to first- and second-year stallions, but breeders will have a wider range of sires to view this year with the invitation being extended to those whose advertised fee sits at £15,000 or less. Breeders who purchase a nomination will also be entered into a free prize draw thanks to a new incentive launched by Tattersalls in support of the parade, giving them the chance to win one of five complimentary foal entries at the 2025 December Foal Sale.

To be entered into the prize draw, breeders need to sign a service contract for one of the stallions within 24 hours of the parade. All of the stallions can be viewed from 11 a.m. in the sales ring, as well as in the Left Yard and Terrace Yard after the parade hosted by racing broadcaster Gina Bryce and Shirley Anderson-Jolag of Tattersalls.

Along with A'Ali, Caturra and Stradivarius, the stallion show will also feature El Caballo (GB), Lope Y Fernandez (Ire), Midnight Sands, Mutasaabeq (GB), Soldier's Call (GB)Twilight Son (GB) and Ulysses (Ire).

Tattersalls associate director and TBA trustee, Matt Prior said, “We are delighted to be once again supporting the TBA Flat Stallion Parade and the revised format along with the new incentive scheme we are offering alongside the TBA will hopefully encourage breeders to come along and purchase a nomination.”

TBA chief executive, Claire Sheppard added, “It is important for us to continuously enhance what we do to support the British thoroughbred breeding industry, especially at this current time. The Flat Stallion parade is a key event which offers a great opportunity to promote an array of British-based stallions to breeders and to suit all mares and budgets. We are very grateful to all those studs bringing stallions along as well as Tattersalls for their ongoing support of the event.”

Daughter of Street Cry Tops Tatts Online April

The top priced lot of the Tattersalls Online April sale was black-type producing mare Jumeirah Street (Street Cry {Ire}–Fashion's Flight, by Dixie Union) who was secured by Richard Knight, Newsells Park Stud and the A'Ali Partnership for 70,000 guineas. Consigned by Sophie Buckley's Culworth Grounds Farm, the 8-year-old-mare was offered in foal to the Darley stallion Masar (Ire). Offered as Lot 4, the bay is out of a full-sister to multiple graded winner and Grade I stakes-placed Justwhistledixie, who in turn is responsible for Grade I winners New Year's Day and Mohaymen.

Jumeirah Street has already produced stakes placed Jumbeau (GB) (Brazen Beau {Aus}) followed by an unraced juvenile colt by Harry Angel (Ire) and a yearling filly by Sands of Mali (Fr).

The mare is intended to visit Newsells resident stallion, multiple group winner A'Ali (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}).

“One of the partners in A'Ali identified the mare and we thought she was worth the punt,” said Julian Dollar of Newsells Park Stud. “We like Street Cry as a broodmare sire. The mare has made a good start with Jumbeau, her first 2-year-old, placed in the Marygate S. last season in the earliest stakes race of the year, showing she was fast and precocious.”

“She comes from a good family and we thought she fitted the profile for A'Ali who was a very fast and precocious racehorse himself. We have been really pleased with the A'Ali foals and that has emboldened us to be confident and to invest in more mares to support him. She has proven she can produce a fast and precocious horse and A'Ali should only help to strengthen that.”

The next highest priced offer, Lot 25, was secured by trainer Jamie Osborne who went to 25,000 gns for the three-time winner Elzaam Blue (Ire) (Elzaam {Aus}–Ghostflower {Ire}, by Dansili {GB}). Offered by Darren Bunyan's Blackmiller Stables, the 5-year-old gelding's most recent win came at Dundalk in February over 1 mile 2 1/2 furlongs.

The Tattersalls Online April Sale realised a turnover of 196,600 gns for the sale of 16 lots at an average of 12,288 gns. Over 130 bidders registered for the sale from across Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Australia, and the Gulf region.

A’Ali Sires First Reported Foals

Multiple Group 2-winning sire A'Ali (Ire) welcomed his first reported foals in the past few weeks, among them a colt out of dual Group 3 winner Maureen (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), who was fourth in the G1 Coronation S.

“Maureen was an obvious type of mare for A'Ali and we're delighted with the end result”, said Newsells Park Stud's General Manager, Julian Dollar, where A'Ali stands. “This colt is less than two days old, but came out very strong, balanced and well put together.  Our hope was always that A'Ali's foals would be in the same model as himself and so far from everything we're seeing and hearing, that's exactly what we're getting.”

Breeder Eugene Daly of Longview Stud had two mares produce A'Ali foals last week. Luminesce (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}), from the family of Group 1 winner Mohaather (GB), foaled a bay filly, while the winner Moddy Poddle (Ire) (Pride Of Dubai {Aus}) produced a bay colt.

Daly said, “I've been very impressed with both of the A'Ali foals born on the stud. They're quality individuals with great strength and very much in the mould of their sire. Having seen him again at the recent TBA stallion parade at Tattersalls last week, I'm looking forward to supporting him again this year.”

Another A'Ali new arrival is a colt out of Eric Cantillon's mare Maajmeh Dawn (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}), herself a half-sister to Listed Dee S. hero Viren's Army (Ire) (Twirling Candy).

Cantillon said, “This is a good colt foal. Strong, correct and with plenty about him. I like him so much I've decided to send the mare back to him again this year and another mare besides.”

The son of the late Society Rock (Ire) won the G2 Norfolk S., G2 Prix Robert Papin, and the G2 Flying Childers S. at two, before adding the G3 Sapphire S. and G3 Coral Charge S. at three. The recipient of 116 mares in his first season, he stands for £5,000 at Newsells Park Stud this year. A unique breeding incentive scheme is also being offered by Newsells Park.

Unique A’Ali Breeding Incentive Announced

A unique breeding incentive for multiple group winner A'Ali (Ire) was announced by Newsells Park Stud on Thursday.

Any breeders that send mares to the three-time Group 2 juvenile victor this breeding season will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to the G1 Dubai World Cup on Mar. 25, the Wimbledon Ladies' Singles Final on July 15, or the Oct. 28 Rugby World Cup Final in Paris.

Besides his Norfolk S. score, the son of the late Society Rock (Ire) also captured the G2 Prix Robert Pain and G2 Flying Childers S. at two. He then added both the G2 Sapphire S. and G3 Sprint S. at three and was third in the G2 Meydan Sprint as a 4-year-old. He stands for £5,000 Oct. 1 SLF. For more details on the breeding incentives to utilise A'Ali, please visit the Newsells Park Stud website.

Newsells Park Stud General Manager Julian Dollar, said, “A'Ali's partners were keen to highlight what a great sporting chance a mare had of producing quality, fast and precocious winners if she was covered by one of the fastest and most precocious sprinters of recent years. And what better way to do that than by offering great sporting prizes to the breeders themselves?  Not only could your mare be visiting the next Ardad (Ire) or Havana Grey (GB), but you could also be attending a memorable sports final.”
