Protonico To Stand For $10,000 During 2022 Breeding Season

Castleton Lyons has announced that top-five second crop sire Protonico will stand for $10,000 LFSN in 2022.

The sire of Kentucky Derby winner and champion 3-year-old colt contender Medina Spirit, who also won the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes and was second in the Breeders' Cup Classic, from his first crop has also sired two stakes horses from his second crop to race, bringing his lifetime AEI to 6.33 compared to Curlin (2.28), Tapit (2.24), Into Mischief (2.10) through Nov. 8.

His 2021 yearlings averaged $63,833 with a median of $66,000, and top prices of $120,000 and $100,000.

Sire of Medina Spirit, Protonico’s ’22 Fee Announced

Second Crop sire Protonico (Giant's Causeway-Alpha Spirit, by A.P. Indy), standing at Castleton Lyons, will stand for $10,000 LFSN in 2022, up from $5,000 this season. From his initial crop, the dark bay is responsible for GI Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, who is also among the leading candidates for Champion 3-year-old colt honors this season. Campaigned by Zedan Racing Stables, the Florida bred won this year's GI Awesome Again S., GIII Robert B. Lewis S. and Shared Belief S. Additionally, he finished runner up in GI Breeders' Cup Classic, GI Runhappy Santa Anita Derby and third in the GI Preakness S. Trained by Bob Baffert, the dark bay currently has five wins from 10 career starts with over $3.5 million in earnings. Protonico, winner of four graded starts during his racing career including the GII Alysheba S., also finished runner up in the GI Clark S.

The 10-year-old sire is also responsible for a pair of stakes horses from his second crop to race bringing his lifetime AEI to 6.33 (through 11/8/21). This term, his 2021 yearlings averaged $63,833, from six sold, with a median of $66,000. The top priced offerings by the sire this season sold for $120,000, and $100,000 at Keeneland September.

Knicks Go’s Stud Fee Set At $30,000 For 2022 Breeding Season

Taylor Made Stallions announced today that Breeders' Cup Classic winner and likely 2021 Horse of the Year Knicks Go will stand the upcoming breeding season for $30,000 S&N.

A scintillating winner of Saturday's 1 1/4-mile Classic in 1:59.57, nearly eclipsing the 18-year-old Del Mar track record set by Candy Ride and the fastest Breeders' Cup Classic winner on dirt since Ghostzapper in 2004, Knicks Go now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $8,673,135 for owner Korea Racing Authority. Following a superb 2021 campaign in which he also won the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational and the historic G1 Whitney Stakes, Knicks Go could cap his career with a defense of his title in the 2022 Pegasus World Cup Invitational on Jan. 29. He is the number one-ranked North American horse on Longines World Best Racehorse Rankings and tops NTRA's Thoroughbred Poll.

The fastest miler in Keeneland history, having won the 2020 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile in the new track-record time of 1:33.85, Knicks Go is a multiple Grade 1 winner from eight to nine furlongs and has run triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures of 113, 112, 111, 108 (twice), 107, and 104, all in top company.

Brilliant and precocious, Knicks Go was a debut maiden special weight winner at two and went on to win the 2018 G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland by a dominating 5 1/2 lengths. He was also runner-up to eventual champion Game Winner in that year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Knicks Go will be available for showings beginning on Friday, Nov. 12. Taylor Made will host open houses to showcase their entire roster from Nov. 12 through Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Claiborne Farm Sets Silver State’s Debut Fee At $20,000

Claiborne Farm announced Nov. 8 that Silver State, winner of this year's Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, will stand for $20,000 when he enters stud for the 2022 breeding season.

The 4-year-old son of Hard Spun has earned $1,933,094 on the racetrack and won or placed in 12 of 14 career starts. His seven victories include the 2021 G1 Metropolitan Handicap and G2 Oaklawn Handicap. He also placed in this year's G1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga.

In the historic Met Mile, Silver State defeated a strong field that included Knicks Go, winner of this weekend's Breeders' Cup Classic and leading contender for Horse of the Year.

Trained by Steve Asmussen for the partnership of Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and Willis Horton Racing, Silver State is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Empire Maker mare Supreme, and he hails from the family of Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos. Bred by Stonestreet Farm, he sold for $450,000 as a yearling at the 2018 Keeneland September sale.

Silver State will be available for inspection later this week by appointment.
