The Stronach 5 started with a bang Friday with a 25-1 shot winning the opening leg. In the end, there were 22 winning tickets each worth $6,284.80.
Friday's sequence began with Laurel's sixth race and the longshot B Determined ($52.40) driving between horses to win a 5 ½ furlong maiden turf event. The Stronach 5 moved to Gulfstream next where the 5-2 favorite Joyful Heat won the eighth race, a five furlong affair on the turf, while the 6-5 favorite Victory Given won Laurel's seventh race and the third leg of the Stronach 5.
Bettors got an 'all' in the fourth leg of the Stronach 5 when rain moved Gulfstream's ninth race off the turf and to a sloppy main track. The race, delayed due to the heavy rains, was won by Reagan's Heart ($11.80).
Laurel's eighth race, the last leg of the Stronach 5, was won by Epic Idea ($15.60).

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.
