Stewart Elliott Triples For Second Night In A Row At Remington Park

For the second consecutive night, veteran rider Stewart Elliott won three races at Remington Park as he quietly tries to close the gap between himself and leading jockey Cristian Torres.

On Oct. 29, Torres stretched his lead over Elliott to 17 more wins at 51-34. Since then, Elliott celebrated a triple bagger for the second night in a row on Friday night at Remington Park as Torres was in Lexington, Ky., preparing for his mount aboard Flash of Mischief in Saturday's Grade 1 $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint. After his second night with three wins, Elliott had moved back within 12 of Torres at 52-40 in trips to the winner's circle this meet.

On Thursday night, Elliott won aboard Lady Ave (1-2 odds) for trainer Steve Asmussen in the third race on the card, for Mindy Willis in the fifth race in the irons of Whiskey Not Wine (9-5) and then with Serendipity Coco (5-2) for Kenny Nolen. Elliott inherited the third win Thursday in the eighth race from David Cabrera after Remington Park's four-time defending champion jockey was involved in an accident and had to take off all his mounts. It was the seventh win in a row for Lady Ave at Remington Park as she moved her career record over the Oklahoma City oval to nine starts, seven wins.

Friday night, it was the same song, different verse. Elliott booted home three more winners, taking the fifth aboard Miss Caney (6-1) for trainer Jesse Oberlander, and in the sixth on Missiszippy Bling (5-1) for Sarah Davidson and completing the riding triple for trainer Michael Biehler as he got the leg up on Cupids Love (3-1) in the seventh race.

The top five jockeys after the 42nd night of live racing at Remington Park were Torres (52), Elliott (40), Gerardo Mora (28), Weston Hamilton (27) and Cabrera (24). The top five trainers going into racing for Saturday, Nov. 5 are Karl Broberg (33), followed by Asmussen (22), Kari Craddock (16), J.R. Caldwell and Scott Young tied for fifth with 14 each.

In the owner's standings, End Zone Athletics (Broberg) of Mansfield, Texas, extended the lead with one win on Friday with Ace Gilford (7-2) in the second race. End Zone Athletics is in front with 23 wins followed by Danny Caldwell (16), Bryan Hawk (11), C.R. Trout (9) and L and G Racing Stables (Silvia Castillo, 6).

Live racing at Remington Park continues Saturday with a nine-race card. First post is 7:07 p.m.
