Del Mar's “mandatory payout” day Sunday drew lots of interest. There was a final pool of $3,568,787 wagered on the bet.
It also drew lots of winners, with 964 fans selecting the correct six numbers in the popular exotic bet that wound up paying out $3,215 for each winning ticket.
Coming into the day, there was a Pick 6 carryover of $373,278. That increased to the $3.5 million-plus number, which outdid the previous “mandatory” day two Sundays ago that had risen to $3,057,176.
Had today's bet been “hit” be a lone ticket holder, that person would have taken home a prize of $3,096,957, which would have been a Del Mar record for a Pick 6 payoff.
Racing will return to the seaside track Thursday with a first post set for 2 p.m.
