Soloshot was a gate-to-wire winner of the $103,159 Lady Finger Stakes on Monday at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack. The George Weaver trainee remained undefeated in her second start for owners Bregman Family Racing, Jackpot Farm and Swinback Stables. She covered the five and one-half furlongs of the seventh race in a final time of 1:05.98.
The quick filly was directed to the two-length triumph by jockey Manuel Franco. She improved her career earnings to a sum of $110,295 and paid $4.10, $2.90 and $2.10. Redwinenadwhiskey was an outsider that finished second and returned $9.47 and $4.50. Unicorn Cake ran third and paid $2.10.
Also on Monday, Canigetaloan earned a narrow victory in the $99,398 Aspirant Stakes. The Jeremiah Englehart-trainee scored a head triumph after an exhilarating stretch battle that resulted in a three-horse photo finish. He completed the sprint for New York-bred 2-year-olds in a five and one-half furlong time of 1:05.00
The $77,233 earner owned by Legion Racing, Peter Dorsman Racing, Spa City Racing and Christopher Dunn registered his first win in his second career start.
Canigetaloan was guided to the hard-fought victory by jockey Kendrick Carmouche and paid $8.60, $3.30 and $2.30. Trust Fund was a game second place finisher and returned $3.30 and $2.10. Tall Paul was a close up third and paid $2.10.
The $99,398 Aspirant Stakes and the $103,159 Lady Finger Stakes are run annually as preparation events for the $200,000 New York Breeders' Futurity. The rich event for New York-bred 2-year-olds is scheduled for October 16.
