Lucky Seven Stable's Grade 2 winner Smile Happy will return to the site of his maiden victory for his final Kentucky Derby prep, trainer Ken McPeek told the Daily Racing Form. The 3-year-old son of Runhappy is targeted toward the G1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.
“We could justify going to a couple of spots, but he'll go to the Blue Grass,” McPeek told DRF.
Smile Happy made his sophomore debut in the Fair Grounds' G2 Risen Star Stakes, finishing second behind Epicenter. Last year, the colt won the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs after breaking his maiden at Keeneland.
Bred in Kentucky by Moreau Bloodstock Int'l Inc. and White Bloodstock LLC, Smile Happy is out of the winning Pleasant Tap mare Pleasant Smile. Lucky Seven purchased the colt for $185,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase.
