Texas-based Thoroughbred owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale's Mattress Mack and Gallery Furniture has launched a Kentucky flood relief effort and their response team is working to help victims of the deadly flooding that swept through Eastern Kentucky.
McIngvale is a staunch supporter of Kentucky's racing and breeding industry. His Gallery Furniture, which he opened in Houston in 1981, is billed as the 'World's Largest Furniture Store'.
In a Twitter post @MattressMack on Friday, McIngvale said: “We have a team on the ground in Kentucky to help remove downed trees, muck out homes and more. Let's pay it forward after all the help we have received after (Hurricane) Harvey. With your help we can continue to do good!”
The first wave of Gallery Furniture's relief efforts will be in the form of soliciting volunteers to do heavy, non-stop manual labor that will include helping to cut up trees, clear paths for vehicles to get through, mucking out homes and more. Brave volunteers who intend to help should be mentally and physically strong and able to survive working hard in the heat.
Additionally, Gallery Furniture and Mattress Mack are soliciting donations to be used to help fund the relief effort. You can also bring a check, cash, or gift cards directly to Mattress Mack at 6006 North Freeway Gallery Furniture in Houston or donate through GoFundMe.
