All the preparation is complete for the 163rd running of the Queen's Plate at Woodbine. All that's left to do is put them in the gate, and see which horse comes out on top.
On this episode of the Queen's Plate News Minute, bloodstock editor Joe Nevills takes a look at the two morning line favorites in first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown: dominant Woodbine Oaks winner Moira, and Grade 3 Marine Stakes winner Rondure.
Trainer Kevin Attard discusses his plans to keep Moira's attitude in check after she acted out in the paddock before the Woodbine Oaks and lost both of her hind shoes. She caused even more commotion after the race when she backed into the shrubs surrounding the stakes winner's circle.
Rondure enters the Queen's Plate off a longer rest than most, and trainer Katerina Vassilieva explained how she kept the colt sharp during his time between races. She also discusses the reasoning behind bringing in Saratoga-based jockey Flavien Prat to ride Rondure in the Queen's Plate.
Post time for the Queen's Plate is at 5:47 p.m. Eastern. The 1 1/4-mile race, restricted to Canadian-breds is contested over Woodbine's all-weather Tapeta surface.
