Prairie Powerhouse: Sharp Azteca’s Undefeated Tyler’s Tribe Dominates In Iowa Stallion Futurity

Unbeaten Tyler's Tribe made quick work of his five overmatched rivals Saturday evening in a tour de force, gate-to-wire romp in the $70,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

Ridden by Kylee Jordan for trainer and co-owner Timothy Martin, Tyler's Tribe crossed the finish line 12 ½ lengths in front of C R Insta Gator, who was best of the rest of in the 5 ½-furlong test for 2-year-olds.

Breaking from the post 1, Tyler's Tribe sped from the gate to lead immediately as Ain't So Bad tried to run with him after breaking inward and bumping Captain Dozer.

Tyler's Tribe led Ain't So Bad by one length while reeling off the opening quarter in :22.35, then by 2 1/2 lengths in :45.66 at the three-eighths mark before pulling away while Ain't So Bad sputtered and faded. With an eight-length advantage in early stretch, Tyler's Tribe willingly responded to one tap of the whip in the final furlong and cruised home as the overwhelming favorite.

Tyler's Tribe finished the distance in 1:04.18.  He notched his third win from as many career starts, all in commanding fashion.

He returned $2.20.

The Iowa Stallion Futurity is the second stakes victory for Tyler's Tribe, whose previous start was a wire-to-wire 8 ½-length triumph in the Prairie Gold Juvenile Stakes, also at 5 ½ furlongs, July 9. His career debut June 20 announced him as a force to reckon with as he trounced nine first-time starters going 4 ½ furlongs in a masterful gate-to-wire 16 ¾-length victory at the Altoona, Iowa track.

C R Insta Gator was five lengths in front of third-place finisher Succession in Saturday's race. Ain't So Bad was fourth, followed by Blackteca and Captain Dozer to complete the order of finish.

Iowa-bred Tyler's Tribe, from the first crop of Three Chimneys Farm's resident Sharp Azteca, is also co-owned by Thomas D. Lepic. He was bred by Clifton Farm and Derek Merkler from the Mission Impazible mare Impazible Woman.

Tyler's Tribe was the second stakes winner Saturday for Sharp Azteca, whose Kentucky-bred son Sharp Aza Tack (Que Chulo, by Bernardini) dominated rivals by 7 ½ lengths in the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park.
