Practical Move Scratched From Kentucky Derby; Cyclone Mischief Draws In

Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Roger Beasley's Practical Move will be scratched from Saturday's Kentucky Derby, TVG's Todd Schrupp confirmed via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

The 3-year-old son of Practical Joke, trained by Tim Yakteen, jogged Wednesday at Churchill Downs and had a routine gallop on Thursday morning. Winner of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, Practical Move was a 10-1 choice on the morning line for Saturday's Run for the Roses.

According to a statement from Churchill Downs, Practical Move has been scratched due to an elevated temperature.

Dale Romans trainee Cyclone Mischief will now draw in off the also-eligible list. Third in both the G1 Florida Derby and G2 Fountain of Youth, the son of Into Mischief will give the Albaugh Family Stables a third runner in this year's Kentucky Derby. Cyclone Mischief will break from the outermost post of 20 in the starting gate, wearing saddle cloth number 21.

All other horse's program numbers will also remain the same but those who were drawn outside Practical Move will break from one gate to their inside.

Joel Rosario is listed aboard both Cyclone Mischief and Disarm, but has first preference aboard the latter colt for trainer Steve Asmussen. Romans told bloodhorse.com earlier Thursday that he had not decided who would ride Cyclone Mischief.

Ramon Vazquez, one of the leading riders in California, had been named to ride Practical Move.
