The sequence concludes on the Fort Marcy approximately an hour later with fillies and mares also going six furlongs. The second leg of the Stronach 5, Gulfstream's sixth race, is the $55,000 Paradise Creek for 3-year-olds and up at a mile on the turf with stakes winner Renaisance Frolic, graded-stakes placed Tizzarunner, stakes-placed Forever Mo, and Sailing Solo.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Champion Chrysoberyl Returns To Winning Ways in Teio Sho

Making his first start since a seventh to Maximum Security (New Year’s Day) in the $20-million Saudi Cup Feb. 29, reigning champion Japanese dirt horse Chrysoberyl (Jpn) (Gold Allure {Jpn}) got the jump on defending race winner and even-money favourite Omega Perfume (Jpn) (Swept Overboard) to take out a Group 1-quality renewal of the Teio Sho (2000m) Wednesday evening at Ohi Racecourse.

Tracking the pacesetting Wide Pharaoh (Jpn) (Henny Hughes) from a three-wide perch in third, Chrysoberyl–last year’s G1 Champions Cup hero–was asked for a bit of run entering the second turn to hold his spot inside of Omega Perfume, who made a bold five-deep move in an attempt to improve his position. Chrysoberyl was popped the question in upper stretch by Yuga Kawada, pinched a break into the final furlong and held firm as Omega Perfume gave game chase. Chuwa Wizard (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}), last year’s runner-up, closed late for third.

With the victory, the progeny of Chrysoprase have now earned close to US$13 million. Chrysoberyl’s older full-brother Chrysolite (Jpn) was a five-time stakes winner on the NAR circuit, including the 2013 Japan Dirt Derby, before romping home to win the inaugural Keeneland Korea Cup in 2016. He now stands stud in that country. Chyrsoprase is also responsible for G1 Takarazuka Kinen winner and champion Marialite (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and the 3-year-old colt Verdite (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), a debut winner over 2000m on turf last December. Chrysoprase’s most recent foal is a yearling colt by Horse of the Year Kitasan Black (Jpn).
