Tattersalls Ireland Postpones Derby, May Store Sales Due To COVID-19

It is with regret that owing to continued COVID-19 related travel restrictions in Ireland, Tattersalls Ireland has taken the decision to postpone the Derby and May Store Sales which were due to take place from Tuesday, July 14 – Thursday, July 16. It is intended that the Derby and May Store Sales will now take place at Tattersalls Ireland in Ratoath on Aug. 11 – 13, prevailing government regulations permitting.

Commenting on the postponement, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell said:

“Despite every effort being made to give all the normal participants an opportunity to attend the sales next week it became clear during the course of yesterday that the current obstacles in our way are insurmountable. It was reconfirmed that all attendees; be they vendors, purchasers or employees who were due to arrive in Ireland from the U.K. are required to self-isolate for 14 days without exception and therefore their attendance at the sale would not be possible.

“The extremely difficult decision to postpone the Derby and May Sales has been made in the context of the unprecedented and unpredictable COVID-19 related circumstances and in the best interests of our vendors, purchasers and staff. We are very conscious of the impact that this decision will have on our valued clients, but we are also at all times mindful of our wider social responsibilities and the prevailing government guidelines.

“Many businesses in Ireland who are dependent on international customers have faced the very same issues and we will continue to explore every avenue that will allow sales to take place in Ireland as soon as the current restrictions have been eased. We must all hope that the outlook improves, and at this stage it is our intention to hold our flagship Derby and May Store Sales in Ireland on Tuesday, Aug. 11 – Thursday, Aug. 13 as our first preference, or in the U.K. on those dates if necessary. Revised dates for the August National Hunt Sale will be announced in due course.”

Dante Glory For Night of Thunder’s Thunderous

Completing a notable double on the York card for Mark Johnston and Franny Norton, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s Thunderous (Ire) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) outstayed the Niarchos Family’s TDN Rising Star Highest Ground (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) to land Thursday’s G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante S. Unbeaten at two and possibly in need of his comeback when runner-up in Newmarket’s Listed Fairway S., the 13-2 shot tracked Ballydoyle’s Cormorant (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) throughout the early stages but looked booked for second as Oisin Murphy sent Highest Ground to the front with two furlongs remaining. Sticking to his guns, the bay whose previous best had come in last year’s Listed Washington Singer S. wore down the 8-11 favourite in the dying strides to prevail by a neck, with Juan Elcano (GB) (Frankel {GB}) two lengths further behind in third. “He was off the bridle, but he was behind the bridle a little bit at Newmarket as well. He had to dig in deep today, but he did,” Norton said. “I was quite confident and comfortable where I was. He loved that ground and I think there’s more to come–I don’t think he’s quite there just yet.”

Following a brace of seven-furlong novice wins at Doncaster in June and Redcar the following month with success in Newbury’s Listed Denford S., or Washington Singer, also over that trip in August, Thunderous then found his momentum stopped jarringly through injury. Nursed back for the Spring, he met with another derailing which meant that his return in the Fairway June 27 was a much-needed one. Second to the more streetwise Volkan Star (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) in that 10-furlong contest staged on good-to-firm ground, he had conditions more in his favour here but had the requisite class to prove. In getting to the hot favourite and much-vaunted Highest Ground, he was putting himself back in the picture as the major middle-distance all-aged contests loom.

“He’s had his ups and downs and just as we were starting to dream of races like the Royal Lodge and the Vertem Futurity Trophy he had an injury after winning at Newbury,” Charlie Johnston explained. “He had another setback in March, although the consequences of that weren’t quite as dramatic as there was no racing in the early part of the year. When we left Newbury last year, we felt he was a Derby horse and the way things have panned out, we’ve never had a clean run at that but he’s a horse we’ve always thought a huge amount of and he’s got a big future. He’s very laid-back and we were quite rushed getting him to Newmarket. We knew running him there would give us the best chance of winning here today and that’s how it’s proved.”

“His attitude and racing style would suggest he could be a St Leger horse, but his pedigree wouldn’t give you a lot of confidence for that sort of distance,” the trainer’s son and assistant added. “It’s hard to make plans this year. There is the [G1] Grand Prix de Paris [at ParisLongchamp Sept. 13]. These races still matter a huge amount and to win them both today still means a huge amount to the team.”

Oisin Murphy was at his usual self-critical best after getting run down late on the favourite. “I was a bit frustrated with myself as no-one wants to finish second, but Highest Ground is gorgeous, if still a bit immature physically and mentally,” he said. “He’d had only two starts before today, but I think he’ll go to a high level. It’s a shame he didn’t get his head in front this afternoon. We went an even enough gallop and I just thought, on that ground, he got a bit tired late on. He hasn’t had a hard race, I hope, and the Niarchos family have a lovely horse.”

Thunderous’s prospects of staying more than a mile and a half are reasonable, being out of the useful Italian listed scorer Souviens Toi (GB) (Dalakhani {Ire}) who was also fourth in the G3 Pinnacle S. and G3 Lille Langtry S. A half-sister to the G2 Oaks d’Italia third Whippy Cream (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), she hails from the family of the German group 3 winner and G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 runner-up Empire Storm (Ger) (Storming Home {GB}). Her 2-year-old colt by Exceed and Excel (Aus) was bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 150,000gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 Sale, while she also has a filly foal by Frankel (GB).

How to Play Texas Holdem, For Beginners

Texas Holdem is by far the most common for of poker played today due to is popularity there are even several TV shows of the game. Besides being popular texas Holdem is also the best game for a beginner to learn, the game can be learned after a few minutes and afte just a few hours of practice you can be playing fairly well against other beginners, but to really get good you must play often.

Texas Holdem is played the same way in the casino, online casinos and in your home with your pals.

Texas Holdem is played in the following manner:

1. Betting structures can vary. In Texas Holdem rarely are antes used. Most Texas Holdem games start with first two players on the dealers left placing predetermined bets. These players are called the small and large blind, and their bets are called posting the blinds.

2. Each player receives 2 cards face down. These cards are called you pocket cards and they are the only cards that are unique to you.

3. After each player is dealt their hole cards a round of betting takes place starting with the player to the left of the 2 blinds this round of betting is called the pre-flop. Just like in any other poker game a player can call raise of fold during their turn.

4. After the Pre-Flop round is over the dealer will remove the top card from the deck and discard it, this is called the Burn Card. This is done to make sure that no cheating is done. The dealer will then turn over 3 cards in the center of the table. This round is called the Flop. Any player may use any of these cards to make the best 5 card hand possible, but you are not allowed to actually touch the cards, each player can use the same cards if it help them, this is why your hole cards are so important.

5. As with the pre-flop there is now another round of betting, it is at this point you will start to see players folding.

6. After the betting is over, the dealer will burn another card, then deal the fourth of the communal cards. This card is called the Turn card

7. Again another round of betting begins and now is when you will start to see the size of the pot really grow.

8. One last time the dealer burns the top card before turning over the last card of the game, called the River card. Players now have all 5 of the communal cards and their own hole card to make the best 5 card hand.

9. One last chance is given to raise the bets or get out of the game. After this each player still in the game will show their cards. This is called the Showdown. The player with the best hand is declared the winner and wins the pot.

Now that you know the basic order of the game you are ready to start playing Texas Holdem. Holdem is a simple game to learn but if hard to master. This is the part that will take you many hand and many dollars, but if you put in the time you will be rewarded for it.

Toronado’s Tactical Dominant In the July

Thursday’s G2 Tattersalls July S. took place against a backdrop of unseasonably wet weather on Newmarket’s July Course, but The Queen’s Tactical (GB) (Toronado {Ire}) shone through with a touch of class to add to his Listed Windsor Castle S. success. Having beaten Yazaman (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) by 1 1/4 lengths in that five-furlong Ascot speed test June 17, the 5-2 second favourite was able to confirm that form by the exact same margin as the duo pulled 2 3/4 lengths clear of Escape Route (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}). Held up early by William Buick as the G2 Coventry S. runner-up and 15-8 favourite Qaader (Ire) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) cut out the running, the Royal homebred was delivered to swamp him before brushing aside Yazaman a furlong from home. Staying on powerfully to the line, the powerhouse was able to prove his versatility and book a tilt at the top flight now.

The Queen’s bloodstock advisor John Warren said, “I think form-wise that was probably the same as the Windsor Castle, but the way he did it looked even better again. I think we might just have a very nice horse on our hands. It’s very exciting. We might look at the [G1] Prix Morny [at Deauville Aug. 23] as a potential objective for him. He is so laid-back and uncomplicated he will handle the travelling. Although it looks like he will stay seven furlongs, at the moment we will keep to what he has been good at. He ran through the line well. When William walked back in he said this was a proper horse.”

Andrew Balding added, “He has shown he is versatile on any ground, which is always nice to know before you go travelling. It is really fantastic for us to have a horse as good as this for Her Majesty. It is really exciting and rewarding. I’m sure there will be some very good horses that haven’t even raced yet and we still have a way to go, but he is near the top of the tree at the moment. We will stay at six for the time being, then when we get to the autumn, you have a choice of six or seven. The dam stayed seven in soft ground and the sire was a top miler, so there is no reason really why he shouldn’t stay seven himself.”

Tactical is the first foal out of the Royal runner Make Fast (GB) (Makfi {GB}), who as Andrew Balding stated was second in the Listed Radley S. and Listed Surrey S. over seven furlongs. She is a half to Raymi Coya (Van Nistelrooy), who captured the G3 Oh So Sharp S. also over seven and is connected to Raise You (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), who took the Listed Fairway S. and was third in the G3 Rose of Lancaster S. when with this stable. Make Fast also has a yearling colt by Iffraaj (GB) and a filly foal by The Queen’s Recorder (GB).
