Nassau “Strong Possibility” For Fancy Blue

G1 Prix de Diane winner Fancy Blue (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) could surface next in the G1 Nassau S. at Glorious Goodwood on July 30, said trainer Donnacha O’Brien.

“Fancy Blue has come out of her race well,” said O’Brien of his first Classic winner. “We’re still not a hundred per cent sure where she will go next, but the Nassau at Goodwood is a strong possibility at the minute.”

The Coolmore partners’ Fancy Blue was winning for the third time from four starts in the Prix de Diane, her lone defeat having come when second to the Diane third Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas on June 13.

Darby Dan Farm’s Flameaway To Shuttle To Chile’s Haras Dadinco

Flameaway, Darby Dan Farm's multiple graded stakes-winning son of Scat Daddy, is shuttling to South America to stand at Haras Dadinco in Chile for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere breeding season, it was announced today.

In the deal brokered by Matt Bowling Bloodstock and Sullivan Bloodstock, Flameaway will stand alongside Aragorn, Newfoundland and Van Nistelrooy, among others.

“We are thrilled to partner with Haras Dadinco,” said Ryan Norton, stallion director at Darby Dan Farm. “Flameaway was a versatile racehorse and he has a stallion's pedigree. He generated a lot of interest in this, his first season at stud, and we believe it's an exciting situation for our young stallion, as well as for Southern Hemisphere breeders.”

An ultra-consistent near-millionaire earner of $911,634 for owner John Oxley and trainer Mark Casse, Flameaway was a stakes winner each year he raced from ages two to four, winning on traditional dirt, turf, and synthetic surfaces at distances from 4 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles. All told, he won five stakes, including the Grade 3 Dixiana Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland and Saratoga's Skidmore Stakes at two after breaking his maiden on debut.

The following season, he captured the G3 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, defeating subsequent Grade 1 winners Catholic Boy and Vino Rosso. He also won the Kitten's Joy Stakes on turf at Gulfstream Park and the Challenger Stakes at Tampa, retiring having finished first or second in nine of 18 lifetime starts.

At stud, Flameaway proved popular at Darby Dan, breeding 183 mares in his first Northern Hemisphere season.

Flameaway to Shuttle to Chile’s Haras Dadinco

Flameaway (Scat Daddy) will shuttle to South America to stand at Haras Dadinco in Chile for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere breeding season. The deal was brokered by Matt Bowling Bloodstock and Sullivan Bloodstock.

The two-time graded winner and GII Toyota Blue Grass S. and GII Jim Dandy S. runner-up stands at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Ky.

Tattersalls Ireland Postpones Derby, May Store Sales Due To COVID-19

It is with regret that owing to continued COVID-19 related travel restrictions in Ireland, Tattersalls Ireland has taken the decision to postpone the Derby and May Store Sales which were due to take place from Tuesday, July 14 – Thursday, July 16. It is intended that the Derby and May Store Sales will now take place at Tattersalls Ireland in Ratoath on Aug. 11 – 13, prevailing government regulations permitting.

Commenting on the postponement, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell said:

“Despite every effort being made to give all the normal participants an opportunity to attend the sales next week it became clear during the course of yesterday that the current obstacles in our way are insurmountable. It was reconfirmed that all attendees; be they vendors, purchasers or employees who were due to arrive in Ireland from the U.K. are required to self-isolate for 14 days without exception and therefore their attendance at the sale would not be possible.

“The extremely difficult decision to postpone the Derby and May Sales has been made in the context of the unprecedented and unpredictable COVID-19 related circumstances and in the best interests of our vendors, purchasers and staff. We are very conscious of the impact that this decision will have on our valued clients, but we are also at all times mindful of our wider social responsibilities and the prevailing government guidelines.

“Many businesses in Ireland who are dependent on international customers have faced the very same issues and we will continue to explore every avenue that will allow sales to take place in Ireland as soon as the current restrictions have been eased. We must all hope that the outlook improves, and at this stage it is our intention to hold our flagship Derby and May Store Sales in Ireland on Tuesday, Aug. 11 – Thursday, Aug. 13 as our first preference, or in the U.K. on those dates if necessary. Revised dates for the August National Hunt Sale will be announced in due course.”
