Equibase App Relaunched With Simplified Betting Tool

Equibase Company has rebranded and relaunched its popular Today's Racing app with a contemporary look and several new features, including a simplified betting tool, it was announced today by Equibase Company President and Chief Operating Officer Jason Wilson. Now branded as “Equibase,” the app is also compatible with iPads and can be downloaded free at itunes.com and play.google.com or by updating Today's Racing.

The free betting tool, known as “Smart Pick™,” creates a suggested ticket based on a set of user preferences, including risk tolerance, wager amount, and placing extra emphasis on aspects such as trainer, jockey, or horse pedigree.

“Smart Pick is the perfect tool for those who might not have the time or experience to analyze pages of past performances,” Wilson said. “Now more than ever, fans are following the sport right from their phones, and this newly enhanced app will not only serve the needs of existing fans, but also help develop new racing fans.”

Users of the app can now personalize the home screen with their favorite tracks and, with one click, add horses to Equibase's free Virtual Stable service to follow future activity. Additional information has been incorporated to entries data, including earnings per start, top Equibase Speed Figure, and the horse's finish in its last start.

The enhanced user experience also provides easy access to the latest news and racing information and has streamlined the purchasing process for handicapping products.

Additional features such as summary performance information for each horse entered in a race will be introduced later this year.

A premium version of the app is available, which removes in-app advertising and provides a free daily past performance and selection for a selected race.

Equibase Company is a partnership between subsidiaries of The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America and serves as the Thoroughbred industry's official database. Through its website and mobile applications, Equibase offers a comprehensive array of free statistical information as well as premium handicapping products and reports in support of the North American Thoroughbred racing industry.

Baccarat For Fun

If ever there was a game that conjures up visions of rich players in rich evening attire gambling for rich bets it is baccarat. There are three common variants of the game but Punto Banco is the most popular variation found in North American casinos. A regular baccarat table is about the size of a craps table, is staffed by three casino dealers and can host about a dozen players.

Play revolves around to hands dealt for the ‘Banker’ and the ‘Player’. These names are titles for the dealt hands only and there is no real banker or specific player. Players place their bets on which hand they think will win. Hand scores are calculated by taking the face value for all cards worth less than ten, one for an ace and zero for tens and face cards. The value of hand is the total of the cards value but if it comes to more than ten you drop the first digit. For example, 8-ace-jack is worth 8 plus 1 plus zero = 9. But 9-5-5 is also worth 9 (9+5+5 = 19, drop the first digit = 9). The card suit makes no difference to value of the cards.

Players take it in turn to act as ‘dealer’ although this only involves turning over the cards. A player usually continues to act as dealer as long as the ‘banker’ keeps winning. The dealer starts by dealing two cards face down for the ‘banker’ and another two cards for the ‘player’. Depending on the totals the casino dealers may instruct the ‘dealer’ to deal another card. With all cards dealt winning wagers are paid out or losses collected.

A third card may be dealt to either the ‘player’ or the ‘banker’ depending on the following rules.

If either the Player or the Banker has 8 or 9 no further cards are drawn. If the Player has a total of 0-5, the Player hits a single card but stands on 6-7.If the Player did not hit, the Banker hits if he has 0-5, and stands on 6-7.If the Player drew a 2 or 3, the Banker hits if he has 0-4, and stands on 5-7.If the Player drew a 4 or 5, the Banker hits if he has 0-5, and stands on 6-7.If the Player drew a 6 or 7, the Banker hits if he has 0-6, and stands on 7.If the Player drew an 8, the Banker hits if he has 0-2, and stands on 3-7.If the Player drew an ace, 9, 10, or face-card, the Banker hits if he has 0-3, and stands on 4-7.

Essentially a game of chance, what it lacks in skill it makes up for in the size of the bets involved. In many casinos the minimum bet can start at $25 and dedicated players often wager hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a single game that gives baccarat its exotic atmosphere.

Mohaather Targeting QEII

Last week’s G1 Sussex S. winner Mohaather (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) is aiming for the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. on Champions Day as his next big target, with trainer Marcus Tregoning as-yet undecided as to whether the 4-year-old will have another start prior.

“His end-of-season target will be the QEII,” said Tregoning. “Whether something slots in before that we’re not sure yet, but Ascot is his main target.

“We could have really done with the [G1 Prix Jacques le] Marois being a week later than it is. There isn’t anything that slots in ideally, as the Marois is the 16th [of August] which is a bit quick and if we drop down to seven for the Foret [on Oct. 4] it’s too close to Champions Day. With the races all moved around it’s difficult. At least we’re now looking having won a Group 1; given how we felt after Royal Ascot things are a good bit different.”

Tregoning was not ruling out a tilt at the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile, either.

“The Breeders’ Cup is three weeks after Ascot this year so that would give him enough time, but that would be entirely down to Sheikh Hamdan. He is lightly raced so hopefully we’ll get a few more goes with him.”
