Yarmouth fixture switched to Wolverhampton after Monday’s meeting was abandoned
The fixture scheduled for Yarmouth on Friday has been switched to Wolverhampton following concerns over the surface at the seaside venue.
Ventura Tormenta Added To Phoenix
Middleham Park Racing’s G2 Prix Robert Papin winner Ventura Tormenta (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) was one of four supplementary entries on Tuesday to Sunday’s G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. at The Curragh. He was joined, as expected, by G3 Molecomb S. winner Steel Bull (Ire) (Clodovil {Ire}) as well as the G2 Airlie Stud S. winner Aloha Star (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) and the Aidan O’Brien-trained winner Giorgio Vasari (Ire) (Air Force Blue).
Ventura Tormenta will be re-opposing The Lir Jet (Ire) (Prince Of Lir {Ire}), who he beat by a head in the Papin. The Lir Jet finished ahead of Ventura Tormenta when winning the G2 Norfolk S. at Royal Ascot.
“Middleham Park were keen to take the race on because the Morny was already looking over-subscribed,” said Ventura Tormenta’s trainer Richard Hannon. “I think this was a good opportunity for the horse to have a crack at a Group 1. He has come back from France well and has never looked better. He has put on weight and the whole experience of France will have done his confidence a lot of good. I think the track at The Curragh will suit him and he is a very straightforward horse. I think he is joint top-rated going into the race and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do. He will be renewing his rivalry with The Lir Jet, which will be a challenge, while there will be some other nice horses in there, which you expect at this level.”

ITV Secures Racing Coverage Until 2023
ITV, which has been the exclusive free-to-air broadcaster of British racing, has agreed to a new deal to show British racing until 2023.
Niall Sloane, ITV director of sport, said, “ITV is delighted to announce the continuation of free-to-air coverage of a sport that is loved and followed by so many. To do so following a successful resumption of the sport with wide audiences returning to our coverage after such a long lay-off is particularly welcome and we look forward to bringing the very best this wonderful sport has to offer to viewers over the next few years.”
Richard FitzGerald, chief executive of Racecourse Media Group, added, “ITV has been a terrific partner for British horseracing over the last three years and ITV has earned the right to renew the contract for a further three years. Its award-winning productions are reflected with increased audiences, in contrast to wider TV audience trends, and they have succeeded in attracting a new, younger audience, without alienating in any way the existing fanbase. We look forward to working closely with the broadcaster in ensuring racing remains in this fantastic shop window provided by ITV and all its platforms. Hat Trick Dies In Brazil
Japanese champion miler Hat Trick (Jpn) (Sunday Silence-Tricky Code, by Lost Code) has died aged 19 in Brazil. The news was first reported by Turf Diario.
The winner of the G1 Mile Championship in Japan and the G1 Hong Kong Mile, Hat Trick was based for most of his stud career in the U.S., starting out at Walmac International before relocating to Gainesway, where he stood for five years before being sold to South America, to where he had already been shuttling, in 2017. Hat Trick is best known for siring the G1 Prix Morny winner and good French sire Dabirsim (Fr) and the GI Jamaica H. victor King David, as well as four South American Group 1 winners. His pattern race winners also include the GII John Henry Turf Championship winner Bright Thought; GII Nassau S. winner Secret Message; and German Group 3 winner Peace In Motion. He leaves behind a total 34 stakes winners and 16 group winners.
