Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners is very pleased to announce that the 2023 OTBO Mixed Sale will be held this year at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course. The time and date are the same: Oct. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
The decision was made with the idea of making things easier for potential buyers to attend the auction. The horses will be in the receiving barn, so it will also be easy and convenient for the consignors to get their horses back and forth.
Plans are also in place to have online bidding available for those who cannot attend. Information on how to register will be found on the OTBO website when it available, and it will also be in the catalog.
All horses that go through this sale, even in utero, will be eligible for the $50,000 OTBO Grad Race for 3-year-olds in the year of the race that is held annually at Mahoning Valley, as well.
Mahoning Valley will be opening the concessions on the lower grandstand prior to the auction to provide food and beverages.
The list of horses in the sale will be released shortly. Approximately 50 horses have been entered with a great selection of weanlings, yearlings, 2-year-olds, and broodmares – most in foal to accredited stallions.
The OTBO also plans on adding a supplement of Horses of Racing Age to the catalog this year.
The catalog will be mailed out the first week of October. It will also be on the OTBO website, and distributed to all of the state's racetracks.
