Nest Commanding Winner Of Alabama Stakes, Secret Oath Second

Nest, the 1-5 favorite, dominated familiar rival and runner-up Secret Oath and five other overmatched fillies in the $600,000 Alabama Stakes (G1), pulling away in the stretch to win by 4 1/4 lenghts Saturday at Saratoga.

The 3-year-old Curlin filly pressed pacesetter and 44-1 longshot She's Keen before taking charge at the top of the stretch drawing away.

Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Nest easily dealt defeat to Secret Oath, who bested her in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) in May but could only chase her in vain to the finish line Saturday. Nest's stablemate Goddess of Fire was third.

Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Nest covered 1 ¼ miles in 2:03.14 on a fast track.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Nest came into the Alabama off a 12 1/4-length romp in the Coaching Club American Oaks July 23 at Saratoga following a runner-up finish to Mo Donegal in Belmont Stakes (G1) on June 11. Prior to the Kentucky Oaks, she won the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.

Owned by Repole Stables, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Michael House, Nest, who returned $2.70, improved to 4-2-0 from six starts this year and 6-2-1 from nine career starts.

Nest was bred in Kentucky by Ashview Farm and Colts Neck Stables. Her dam is the A.P. Indy mare Marion Ravenwood.
