As the 148th Kentucky Derby approaches, NBC Sports presents exclusive live coverage of the $1 million Florida Derby this Saturday, April 2 at 6 p.m. ET on CNBC from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla. The Florida Derby marks the second of three consecutive Saturday afternoons featuring NBC Sports' “Road to the Kentucky Derby” coverage. NBC Sports will present the 148th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 7.
Five weeks ahead of the May 7 running of the Kentucky Derby, the Grade 1 Florida Derby awards Kentucky Derby qualifying points on a 100-40-20-10 scale for the top four finishers. The field is expected to include Fountain of Youth winner Simplification, Tampa Bay Derby winner Classic Causeway, and Holy Bull winner White Abarrio.
Ahmed Fareed hosts Saturday's coverage, alongside analysts Jerry Bailey, the Hall of Fame jockey who won the Florida Derby three times, and Randy Moss.
NBC Sports will also present the Gulfstream Park Oaks on Saturday, one of the major prep races on the “Road to the Kentucky Oaks.” Saturday's show will also include live coverage of the Jeff Ruby Steaks, a 100-point Kentucky Derby qualifying race.
Coverage will be streamed live on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.
