Trainer Todd Pletcher told the Daily Racing Form on Wednesday that the well-regarded Mo Donegal will miss a start in Saturday's Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park after developing a low-grade fever of 102 degrees.
“We probably would have scratched anyway with post 12, but this made the decision for us,” Pletcher said. “He's on target to head straight to the Wood. That's the most likely scenario.”
Aqueduct's Wood Memorial, worth 100 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, is scheduled for April 9.
The 3-year-old son of Uncle Mo captured the G2 Remsen Stakes in his final start as a juvenile, and ran a respectable third when closing from well off the pace in last month's G3 Holy Bull, his sophomore debut.
