Melbourne Cup-winning mare Verry Elleegant will be transferred from trainer Chris Waller in Australia, where she is the reigning Horse of the Year, to trainer Francis-Henri Graffard in Chantilly, France, reports Fox Sports Australia.
The 2015 daughter of Zed, an 11-time Group 1 winner, will be aimed at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe later this year.
“I'm not disappointed with the decision, the owners have my full support,” Waller told Fox. “I gave them a plan to take the mare over later in the year but they all agreed it was best to go over early and have a fair crack at it.
“The decision has been made now and to get the best possible outcome for Verry Elleegant I will do whatever I can to help with the transition.''
The mare's ownership group released the following statement regarding their decision: “We know she is a world class stayer who needs 2400m (1 1/2 miles) and further to show her true ability but we expect her to be weighted out of the (Caulfield and Melbourne) Cups so there is limited opportunities for her domestically.
“After much deliberation we came to the realization if we want to campaign her in Europe we need to do it properly and send her to be trained and prepared in the northern hemisphere.”
A winner in 16 of her 38 career races, Verry Elleegant boasts earnings of nearly US$10 million.
