Born to a racing family in Ireland and a recent two-time Group 1 winner in Australia, Robbie Dolan is set to share another of his talents with the racing world. According to the Thoroughbred Racing Commentary, the 26-year-old Dolan will appear on The Voice Australia when it airs after Easter.
“It's pretty exciting – it feels like a dream at this stage,” Dolan told TRC. “Singing has always just been a hobby to me. I did school plays years and years ago and always really enjoyed singing.
“They are very different worlds but once I got the opportunity to perform on The Voice I was like, 'Why not, what have I got to lose?'”
Dolan's grandfather Peadar Matthews won a pair of Irish Classics as a jockey in the 1960s, and both of his parents were jockeys as well. Dolan's brother Barry is a trainer in the United States, but Dolan was able to get a job riding out in Australia.
After settling in Sydney, Dolan worked for trainer Mark Newnham and rode 93 winners over the 2017-2018 season, winning a pair of apprentice championships. This season, Dolan has partnered Shelby Sixtysix to victory in the G1 Galaxy at Rosehill in Sydney.
