Kalidasa, the world's most expensive yearling sold at auction in 2022, will make his debut Wednesday at Kempton Park Racecourse, Racing Post reports.
The 2-year-old son of Frankel was purchased by Godolphin for 2.8 million guineas (US$3,703,988) at last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Bred by Watership Down Stud, Kalidasa is out of the Group 3-winning Dubawi mare So Mi Dar, from the family of multiple Group 1 winner and Darley stallion Too Darn Hot and multiple Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi.
William Buick will ride the colt in the one-mile race over an all-weather surface for trainer Charlie Appleby.
Despite the massive sale price, Kalidasa will be competing for a modest purse in his debut, with £3,672 (US$4,619) going to the winner. He'll be part of an 11-horse field.
