Apprentice jockey Hannah Leahey posted her first career riding victory Friday at Turf Paradise when guiding Freiburg from last to first in the eighth race.
Freiburg lacked early speed in the five-furlong starter optional claiming event but was full of run after going widest for the drive in the eight-horse field. Fifth as Tim's Buddy led by a head in early stretch, the 7-year-old Langfuhr gelding rallied with determination and surged to the front late to win by a head in :57.25. Trained by Michael Bullene for owner Richard DeGraw, he won for the 11th time in 60 career starts.
Freiburg represents the third career mount for Leahey, who rode her first race professionally March 9 at Turf Paradise, finishing second with Paynt the Kitty.
Leahey is represented by agent George Bradvica.
