Winchell Thoroughbreds' Epicenter is expected to target the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby after Saturday's dominating triumph in the G2 Risen Star, reports the Daily Racing Form.
“He's been doing in the afternoon what he's showing in the morning – that he's improving,” Asmussen told DRF.
Trainer Steve Asmussen plans to work the 3-year-old son of Not This Time three times before his final prep for the Kentucky Derby.
Runner-up Smile Happy, behind rivals for part of the far turn, ran on well in the stretch. Trainer Ken McPeek has not decided on a next start for the son of Runhappy.
Third-place finisher Zandon pleased trainer Chad Brown in just his third career start. The son of Upstart will likely make his next start in the G1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland.
