IEVA Conference Hosts 2023 Veterinary Conference

The three-day 2023 IEVA Conference kicked off Nov. 23 at the Cavan Equestrian Centre in Co Cavan, Ireland. The opening day's workshop dealt with the imaging of the equine head, featuring the latest in equine diagnostic imaging equipment displayed by Molloy Veterinary and Celtic SMR. The day rounded out with a quiz and supper at the Slieve Russell Hotel, home to IEVA23.

The next two days, the IEVA Conference–staged at the IEVA Exhibition Hall–delivered a series of lectures, talks and presentations by experts in the field of equine veterinary as well as a number of case studies and abstract studies. A series of hands-on workshops took place over the two days also.

Milda Baltrimaire from Tullyraine Equine Clinic was honored with the IMV Imaging sponsored Case Awards. Baltrimaire earned the award for her study into Absorbable urethral stent placement in the standing horse for the successful treatment of a urethral stricture.

Additionally, the inaugural Future Proof campaign saw many industry stakeholders sponsor a veterinary student to attend IEVA Conference 2023. A total of 17 Irish students, some of who are studying abroad, were able to attend the conference. Plans are to extend the campaign for IEVA24.

Another highlight of this year's event was the Gala Dinner, hosted by Brendan McArdle of The Irish Field. The Gala also featured an auction, benefitting the Veterinary Support Fund and the Elephant In the Room's beneficiary charity; namely Samaritan's Ireland for 2023.

“The weekend highlights were excellent speakers, a truly glamorous Gala Ball and a whopping €6000 raised for charity,” said newly elected President Sabrina Barnwell, of Dooneen Equine Veterinary Clinic. “We discussed heads, behaviour and the latest updates in the papers.”

“This year IEVA23 has continued the Case Award prize with a significant purse for recent graduates and introduced the FutureProof Students Scheme which was generously supported by our industry and saw 17 students supported to attend the event.  We are already planning another action-packed conference for 2024.”
