HIWU Announces Provisional Suspension For Alleged Cobalt Positive

The Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit published public notice of its first testing-related violation this week. Trainer Mario A. Dominguez was cited for violation of HISA's rule 3212 against the presence of banned substance and metabolites in a horse. The substance indicated was cobalt.

The violation is dated May 24 of this year for Dominguez trainee Petulant Delight, who finished first in a claiming race at Parx on May 24 for Dominguez and owner The Hakim's Stable LLC. Petulant Delight had made his prior start, a fifth-place effort in a Parx claiming race, for different connections, running there for trainer Angel Castillo Sanchez and owner Speed Genius Stables.

According to the HIWU website, Dominguez is provisionally suspended while the matter is pending. He has two entries scheduled for Parx on June 19 and has saddled a total of 51 runners so far this year.

Anti-doping violations carry a two-year suspension and a fine of as much as $25,000.
