The 20-cent Rainbow 6 gross jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $250,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., after going unsolved Friday for the third racing day in a row since a lucky bettor hit the jackpot Sunday for a $342,836.75 payout.
Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 7-12, including the $100,000 Silks Run in Race 10 and the $100,000 Hutcheson in Race 11.
The Silks Run, a five-furlong turf dash for older horses, attracted a field of 10, including Wesley Ward-trained Arrest Me Red, a son of Pioneerof the Nile who will be making his 2022 debut after winning three stakes in a row to close out his 2021 season. Laura Cazares-trained Yes I Am Free, who captured the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint (G3) last time out, and Frank Russo-trained Belgrano, graded stakes-placed in his last two starts, are among the more highly regarded contenders.
The Hutcheson, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds, will feature the anxiously awaited return of George Weaver-trained Nitrous Channel, a Triple Crown-nominated son of Nyquist who scored an impressive debut victory at Gulfstream Feb. 5. Christopher Davis-trained American Sanctuary is slated to make his 2022 debut after competing in Grade 1 company in his last two starts.
The $100,000 Any Limit, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies, will be contested as Race 6. Mark Casse-trained Strategic Bird, a stakes-winning daughter of Noble Bird, is rated as the 9-5 morning-line favorite. Strategic Bird, who won her career debut by 12 ¾ lengths at Gulfstream before winning the Sandpiper at Tampa, is coming off third-place finish in the seven-furlong Gasparilla at Tampa. Eddie Plesa Jr.-trained One Identity, who is undefeated in two career starts, and Ralph Nicks-trained Spirit Wind, a dazzling 15 ½-length maiden winner last time out, are slated to make their stakes debuts in the Any Limit.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Who's Hot: Irad Ortiz notched bookend wins on Friday's card, scoring aboard Nana Fanny ($6.60) in Race 1 and Wora ($3.60) in Race 9.
