Ben and Sally Warren's homebred Warren's Showtime, a multiple graded stakes winner and California-bred champion, sustained a devastating injury to a foreleg while training Saturday at Santa Anita Park and was euthanized.
“We were marveling at how beautiful she moved, and how easy she was going,” trainer Craig Lewis told Daily Racing Form. “She switched leads, took a bad step, and broke her leg.”
The 5-year-old mare from the first crop of Clubhouse Ride was out of the Warrens' Grade 1 winner Warren's Veneda, by Affirmative. She compiled a 8-5-10 record from 26 career starts that included wins in the a pair of Grade 3 stakes: the 2021 Wilshire Stakes and 2020 Autumn Miss Stakes, both at Santa Anita, and placed second or third in six other graded events, including a third at the highest level in the 2020 Del Mar Oaks (G1). California's champion 3-year-old female of 2020, she amassed lifetime earnings of $843,431.
