Dusseldorf is the latest track to stage a European Classic on Sunday, with the 100th running of the G2 German 1,000 Guineas featuring an overseas challenger in the G3 Firth of Clyde S. and G3 Oh So Sharp S. winner Rose of Kildare (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}). Ninth in the G1 1,000 Guineas Newmarket June 7, the Mark Johnston raider encounters Gestut Karlshof’s No Limit Credit (Ger) (Night of Thunder {Ire}) who beat Gestut Ebbesloh’s Democracy (Ger) (Areion {Ger}) by a neck in the G3 Schwarzgold-Rennen at Cologne May 17. Litex Commerce’s Tabera (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who was third in the G3 Preis der Winterkonigin at Baden-Baden when last seen in October, still has potential on her seasonal return.
After a week-long fest of Classic trials at Royal Ascot, Leopardstown picks up the baton with the G3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Blue Wind S. in which Aidan O’Brien is represented by his Curragh maiden one-two by Galileo (Ire), Snow (Ire) and Salsa (Ire). Both are bred to make their mark in the Oaks, be it Epsom or the Irish equivalent, so it will be interesting to see how they fare against the likes of the proven One Voice (Ire) (Poet’s Voice {GB}). The latter was narrowly denied by the fellow Jessie Harrington-trained Silence Please (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) in Navan’s Listed Salsabil S. over this 10-furlong trip June 10 and is re-opposed by the third-placed Raven’s Cry (Ire) (Raven’s Pass). This race has an obvious pull on Dermot Weld and the five-times successful trainer puts forward a fascinating contender in Moyglare Stud Farm’s Amma Grace (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who beat the subsequent winner Roca Roma (Ire) (Australia {GB}) over a mile here in October.
