Funtastic Again posted his first stakes win Saturday at Turfway Park after leading at every point of call in the $125,000 Leonatus for 3-year-olds.
Ridden by Gerardo Corrales for trainer Wesley Ward, the colt from the first crop of Three Chimneys Farm resident sire Funtastic clocked early fractions of :24.09, :48.12, and 1:12.67 for six furlongs before scoring by 3¾ lengths. He covered the one-mile test in 1:37.05 on the all-weather main track.
The favorite, Funtastic Again returned $4.26 for the victory.
American Speed bested Ironsides by a nose to take second in the nine-horse field.
Funtastic Again, who is campaigned by Three Chimneys Farm, notched his third win from five career starts. He came into Saturday's race off an allowance/optional-claiming win going the Leonatus distance at Turfway on Dec. 2. The $74,616 winner's share of the Leonatus purse increased his lifetime bankroll to $184,806.
Bred in Kentucky by BHMFR LLC, Funtastic Again was purchased for $60,000 as a weanling at the 2020 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, where Hunter Valley Farm consigned. His dam is the Broken Vow mare Repeta.
