Fonner Park CEO Chris Kotulak shares slices of life from the Grand Island, Neb., racetrack throughout the 2022 meet in the Fonner Files.
Even before lab tests confirmed EHV-1 at Fonner Park, CEO Chris Kotulak and Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission veterinarian Dr. David Radechel DVM, acted quickly and preemptively to put Barn R into quarantine. Days later a minimum 21-day quarantine was enacted by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.
And when news made its way up channels to the federal level, something special happened. The United States Department of Agriculture promptly contacted Brandon Ames, founder and CEO of AniCell Biotech and encouraged them to go to Fonner Park to offer their product to the horsemen with horses in quarantine.
AniCell Biotech is a new biotech company with products that use growth factors and cellular components. Their natural amnion-based product has proven results of arresting an EHV-1 outbreak.
Ames, along with their board-certified veterinarian Dr. Tammi Epp DVM, arrived earlier this week to the Fonner Park stable area and have been providing treatment to roughly 100 horses in Barn R. With USDA permitted use of their Investigative New Animal Drug (INAD), already, horses displaying symptoms of EHV-1 are recovering.
A very dark cloud has developed over the stable area, but AniCell Biotech is presenting a ray of light to Fonner Park and potentially a world of hope.
