Entries are now open for the 2023 TIF Derby Prop Contest.
A set of 20 prop-style questions face contest participants. The props are similar to those available at legal sportsbooks in a growing number of American jurisdictions
Entrants are playing for the chance to choose the direction of $20,000 in donations from the Lavin Family Foundation to four racing charities: Backside Learning Center at Churchill Downs, New Vocations, Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, and Second Stride.
“We thought this was a fun way to draw attention to the need for racing to modernize its offerings to the wagering public while supporting some tremendous charitable endeavors,” said TIF Executive Director Patrick Cummings. “Legalized sports betting is coming to Kentucky and horse racing needs to be a part of that sooner rather than later. A betting product that is exclusively pari-mutuel is out-of-touch with present-day consumers.”
The deadline for contest entries is 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 6.
A contest for racing media members will take place as well, with the media selections published to TIF's website by mid-day on Friday. The winning media participant will get to direct $2,000 in donations to the nominated charities.
Overall contest winners will be notified by email late on Saturday evening to identify how to direct charitable donations.
