Mill Ridge Farm regretfully announces the loss of Devine Actress on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023 as a result of hemorrhaging from her foaling a filly by Not This Time.
Kentucky-bred by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lail, Devine Actress was an 18-year-old mare that was born in 2005, and retired in 2010. Sired by Theatrical out of the Mr. Prospector mare Devine Beauty, she was trained by David E. Hofmans, and raced for Amerman Racing, LLC.
The daughter of 1987 champion grass horse Theatrical (by Nureyev) Devine Actress made her first start late in her 4-year-old season. Following a Hollywood Park maiden special weight score at 1 1/16 miles in her second outing, the Amermans arranged to buy Devine Actress privately. For them, she won a pair of races from four outings, including the Santa Lucia Handicap at Santa Anita in her last start.
On behalf of owners Jerry and John Amerman, Nicoma Bloodstock mated Devine Actress with Kitten's Joy producing two millionaire sons in turf star Oscar Performance, the 2016 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner, and multiple graded stakes winner Oscar Nominated.
“Devine Actress had been a part of the Mill Ridge family since 2010. It is hard to lose such an outstanding mare who provided so much. She left a lasting legacy with her son Oscar Performance who was born, raised and is now standing stud here on the farm. We are thankful for her life and contribution to this sport we all love,” said Price Bell, Mill Ridge general manager.
