The Coolmore partnership has acquired an interest in Bashford Manor Stakes winner Gulfport, and the operation will stand the 2-year-old son of Uncle Mo at stud at the end of his career, Thoroughbred Daily News reports.
Owned by the partnership of William and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Jackpot Farm, and Whispering Oaks Farm LLC, and trained by Steve Asmussen, Gulfport won on debut by seven lengths at Churchill Downs, then followed up with a 12 1/4-length score in the Bashford Manor Stakes at the same track on July 4. The margin of victory was a record for the six-furlong race.
Bred in Kentucky by Diamond Creek Farm, Gulfport is out of the winning Unbridled's Song mare Fame and Fortune, who is herself a full-sister to Grade 1 winner and leading freshman sire of 2018 Cross Traffic. Gulfport's second dam is the Grade 1 winner Stop Traffic.
“We are delighted to partner with William and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Jackpot Farm, and Whispering Oaks Farm LLC on such an exciting son of Uncle Mo,” said Coolmore's M.V. Magnier. “His performance in the Bashford Manor was very special, and we think there's a lot more to come.”
