The half-sister to millionaire Grade 1 winner Clairiere, La Crete suffered a condylar fracture during the running of Saturday's Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, La. According to the Daily Racing Form, the 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro underwent a successful surgical repair on Sunday by Ocala Equine's Dr. John Madison at Louisiana State University's Equine Surgery Center.
Both fillies are out of Cavorting, the three-time Grade 1-winning earner of over $2 million.
La Crete won her first two starts for owner/breeder Stonestreet, including the listed Silverbulletday Stakes in January.
La Crete, trained by Steve Asmussen, was at the front of the field at the half-mile pole when jockey Joel Rosario pulled her up abruptly. She was vanned off, and is now recovering well from surgery.
“She's doing really well,” Stonestreet trainer Ian Brennan told DRF. “I just talked to the clinic this morning. The surgery went really good and she's recovering really well. She's in good form this morning. She'll be out for 60 to 90 days and then we'll make a decision.”
