A total of 204 horses of all ages, including broodmares, yearlings and weanlings, have been cataloged for the main section of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Mixed Sale to be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.

“As the last mixed sale of the calendar year, Midlantic December annually provides quality buying opportunities for both regional and national breeding and racing operations,” said Midlantic Director of Sales Paget Bennett. “This year’s catalogue offers large groups of in-foal mares and weanlings that should be attractive draws to prospective buyers.”

War of Will Retired, to Stand for $25,000 at Claiborne

Classic winner and dual-surface multiple Grade I winner War of Will (War Front–Visions of Clarity {Ire}, by Sadler’s Wells) has been officially retired and arrived at the Hancock family’s Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky., Monday morning to prepare for the 2021 breeding season. War of Will will stand for $25,000 live foal, stands and nurses.

Trained by Mark Casse for Gary Barber, War of Will burst onto the Triple Crown trail last year with consecutive wins in the GIII LeComte S. and the GII Risen Star S. before capturing the GI Preakness S. Switched to the lawn this year, he added the GI Maker’s Mark Mile S. at Keeneland, a victory that put the versatile bay in rarified air with Grade I victories on both the dirt and turf. War of Will also placed in the GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile S. this year, the GI Pennsylvania Derby last year, and the GI Summer S. at two. Last seen off the board in Saturday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, he retires with a record of 18-5-1-3 and earnings of $1,881,803.

War of Will, who is out of a half-sister to European champion, Breeders’ Cup winner, and sire Spinning World (Nureyev), will be available for inspection by breeders Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Breaking Lucky to Pleasant Acres for 2021

Breaking Lucky (Lookin At Lucky–Shooting Party, by Sky Classic), winner of the 2015 Prince of Wales S. in Canada and a Grade III winner and treble Grade I-placed later in his career, will continue his stud career at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, Florida, in 2021. He will stand for a fee of $5,000.

Bred in Ontario by Christine Hayden, Breaking Lucky was a solid fifth to Shaman Ghost (Ghostzapper) in the 2015 Queen’s Plate before turning the tables in the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown at Fort Erie. Winner of the GIII Seagram Cup S. on the Woodbine synthetic in 2016, he hit the board behind Gun Runner in the 2016 GI Clark H., the 2017 GI Stephen Foster H. and 2017 GI Whitney S.

A son of the Grade I-placed Shooting Party, Breaking Lucky is a half-sister to Quake Lake (War Chant), the dam of GI Kentucky Derby hero Country House (Lookin At Lucky) as well as the talented turf distaffer Mitchell Road (English Channel) from the same Smart Strike sire line.

“Our mission has always been to expand Florida’s breeding program by offering exceptional stallion bloodlines,” said Joe Barbazon, owner of Pleasant Acres Stallions. “Bringing Breaking Lucky to Pleasant Acres Stallions is a huge win for all of us in the state. This successful GSW millionaire is the the only son of Lookin at Lucky to be standing in Florida and we are proud to have him at Pleasant Acres Stallions.”
