Money Management for Sports Betting Success:

A Fundamental Strategy to Grind Out Long Term Profits

From DocumentedCappers.com

Let’s face it: the number one goal of anyone who bets on sports is to win money. No one likes the feeling of wagering on a sporting event and then losing their hard earned money because their team didn’t win the game or cover the point spread. It has been well discussed in the past that most people who bet on sports lose money in the long run. After analyzing this trend, one of the biggest problems that most amateur bettors have is a poor, or nonexistent, money management strategy. While nothing in sports betting is ever for certain, there are some very important skills that you can learn, and implement today that will set you apart from a majority of the people that lose money betting on sports. You can become one of the few who shows a nice profit. This article is by no means all that there is to know or consider with a money management program, but it will give you a SOLID foundation from which to build your bankroll month after month, and year after year.

Establishing Sports Betting Goals

As I said earlier, people bet because they are trying to show a profit. One of the main questions that you need to consider when developing a winning plan for success is:

1. How much money do I want to make monthly or yearly from
betting on sports, and do I have enough money to start
with to accomplish this goal?

It’s ok if you don’t have a clear understanding of what the answers to the above two questions should be. Very shortly it will be perfectly clear.

Let’s use an example of an unrealistic goal: “I would like to make $500 per month betting on sports. I have $500 to start with at the beginning of the football season.”

FORGET IT, GO FIND A NEW HOBBY, OR GO PLAY THE LOTTERY!

Now let’s use an example of a realistic goal: “I would like to make and extra $100 – $300 per month betting on sports. I have $3000 to start with at the beginning of the football season.”

NOW THIS IS MUCH MORE REALISTIC, AND THIS ARTICLE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO DO JUST THIS AND MORE BY FOLLOWING SOME BASIC MONEY MANAGEMENT SKILLS.

Just as with any business, if you treat sports betting as a serious business, money can be made, if you understand what is involved. Most people have unrealistic expectations that they can bet $50 a game with a $500 bankroll and be doubling their money in no time. It just DOES NOT AND WILL NOT work this way. We will now look at how to establish a proper bankroll for your betting habits, set realistic goals, and run your sports betting just as you would do with any other business.

Bankroll Size

The first thing you need to do is establish a starting bankroll for your sports betting, and then decide how much you will be betting on each particular game. Your bankroll should always determine your betting size, and the size of your bets should correlate with the size of your current bankroll.

Let’s define bankroll size as the amount of money available to place your bets with, and the investment vehicle to build your profits. The main betting technique that we use, and that we recommend you use for long term success with a majority of your bets is a basic 2% flat rate of bankroll. What this means is that if you start with a bankroll of $1000 your first bet would be for $20, or 2% of your bankroll. Why 2% you may ask? By betting 2% you will have nearly no chance of losing your entire bankroll during a losing streak, because as your bankroll decreases, a 2% bet will also get smaller as well. When things turn around and you go on a hot streak, and your bankroll grows to more than your initial $1000, you get to increase your bet size, simply by being disciplined and sticking with the 2% flat rate of bankroll system. Below you can see what 2% of different bankrolls looks like.

% of bankroll Initial Bankroll Bet Size

2 100 2
2 500 10
2 750 15
2 1000 20
2 1500 30
2 2000 40
2 5000 100
2 7500 150
2 10000 200
2 20000 400
2 50000 1000

Now you can see that if you are the type of person who feels comfortable betting $20 a game, you should start with a bankroll of $1000. You need to use this type of system to minimize your losses during cold streak and maximize your profits during a hot streak.

How much can I expect to profit?

To look at this we will use a scenerio of someone who has a starting bankroll of $1000 and we will examine how much money they can make using the 2% flat rate of bankroll system with different winning percentages for picking winners. We will track 100 bets.

Scenerio #1

Starting bankroll: $1000
Winning percentage: 55%
Initial bet size: $22
Number of bets: 100

Results:

55 winners = $1100
45 losers = $990
Rough estimate using 11-10 point spread odds
$1100 – $990 = $110 profit

Scenerio #2

Starting bankroll: $1000
Winning percentage: 57%
Initial bet size: $22
Number of bets: 100

Results:

57 winners = $1140
43 losers = $946
Rough estimate using 11-10 point spread odds
$1140 – $946 = $194 profit

Scenerio #3

Starting bankroll: $1000
Winning percentage: 59%
Initial bet size: $22
Number of bets: 100

Results:

59 winners = $1180
41 losers = $902
Rough estimate using 11-10 point spread odds
$1180 – $902 = $278 profit

If you are getting thoughts that you are interested in making more per 100 bets there are two ways to make this happen with this system. The first is to pick a higher percentage of winners, if you pick higher that 60% winners you will make more money than if you only pick 55% winners. The second way is to increase your bankroll, which will allow you to increase the size of your bets. As a 2% bet of $1000 was $20, (we used $22 to simplify the math), 2% of $2000 would be $40. This situation would now allow you to increase your profits quite nicely over a 100 bet stretch.

The above is a basic fundamental strategy involved in long term sports wagering success. It is a way to grind out long term profits month after month, and year after year. This system does not have the excitement factor of hitting a 6 team parlay, but it is a very safe way to build a bankroll little by little and make you one of the few you can proudly show a profit at the end of the year. Good luck!

Mobile Poker from Ongame. Part two.

Very important feature at the mobile poker room is statistics option. You can view best hands (online or offline mode), game statistics (real money, play money, or offline tournaments) and hand history. The game statistics can be reset at any time – this will then reset all the previously saved details.

I wouldn’t specially review the network as a whole or a particular mobile pokerroom, it has been already done briefly in the “Mobile poker room reviews”.

Here I shall turn our attention to the problem of selection a certain mobile poker room to play. As for me, I played in mobile PokerRoom, because I have an account there, plus I wanted to have a look at their mobile casino games. I would rather put it like this: if you are interested only in poker as such, and you don’t need a mobile casino or sportsbook then play in EuroPoker, they specialize in this game; they have bonuses and various poker promotions. BWin is not that generous in respect to the mobile casino bonuses, but from one account you can play at their mobile casino as well as place a bet the sportsbook.

PokerRoom besides poker has also a casino (you can use a joint account), but worth mentioning, the mobile CasinoRoom offers now only one game – blackjack. The game weighs a bit less comparing to the other mobile casinos, – only 95 Kb, graphics is good, but a bit too fine, maybe because of the fact that they offer a game up to five boxes. I personally gave it a try and played simalteneously at two. The table limite is wide enough – $1-$300, I played at $3. The game was relatively smooth, though rather often there were series of 3-5 wins or 3-5 losses. I got a record win series – 12 wins in a row (and 5 losses at maximum)! Easy to guess, I finished my play session with not bad winnings. It resulted in 50 wins, 45 losses and 5 ties. The blackjacks let me down only ones, but with a double downs was OK: won 8 out of 10. As you can imagine, I enjoyed that! One of the most distinctive features of the mobile poker room is the ability for users to make deposits and withdrawals to and from a real money account via their mobile phone, as well as depositing via Moneybookers.

Other mobile poker rooms.
As I have already mentioned, there are not many mobile poker rooms yet. Factually, I could find the info on the mobile poker at PartyPoker web site, but they only have mobile Poker Trainer with a simple poker bot to sharpen your poker skills.

Also, it is necessary to mention Ultimate Bet mobile poker room, with software developed by Phantom Fiber. The problem with this mobile poker room is that comparing the room with Ongame, mobile poker players have no access to the online poker tables. Ongame has some limits, but the player is able to have access from the phone to the same tables, as online player. With Ultimate Bet, access is given only to special tables for a mobile poker version.

Mobile casinos as well as mobile poker companies definitely would be adding more games selection to the Mobile Gaming software, so keep an eye out for new additions.

Mobile Poker from Ongame. Part one.

Poker players, surely, know the name of the poker network – Ongame. That’s one of the largest poker networks for now (and before the expulsion of the Americans was the largest). The Ongame Company itself, as had been already mentioned, was acquired by the bookmaker BWin. Ongame Company owns not only the software, but a couple of large online poker rooms such as PokerRoom and EuroPoker. So it turns out, that namely these poker rooms, factually belonging to the one and only owner, are also using Ongame mobile casino games software for their mobile poker versions. Perhaps, mobile software already exists or will soon be developed for other rooms of this network, but I didn’t yet come across any.

So what kind of mobile poker software Ongame Company offers? Well, the game “weighs” about 250 Kb and includes likewise online and offline options where you can practice your poker skills: to take advantage of tournament features, playing at four different skill poker levels – from beginner to expert, and of course to win mobile poker bonuses.

But, surely, the most interesting option is mobile poker games. There’s only one game – Texas Hold’em, and only cash games. You may download certain options, for example, a four colour deck, 3D graphical game, a chat, detailed info, sound etc.

Before starting a mobile poker game you should filter the poker tables, select the game type (limited, unlimited), table size (full, shortened, one to one), limits, and also mobile poker for real money or play money, or offline tournaments.

Having done the selection, press “Get Tables”, you would find a list of the available tables – these will be the same poker tables as in the online version. If you select the option “show full tables”, you get all the tables available; if this option is not installed – only those tables which are not fully occupied. For every table, after it’s selected, you can acquire additional info (hands per hour, average pot, flop view percentage). Unfortunately, the current version lacks the opportunity to join a queue to a table; you can join a partly occupied or open and watch the game at a fully occupied table.

Visually a table is a diminished copy of the online poker room version – same avatars, same design, but you are able to see on the display only a little more than half a table at one and the same time.

By using a joypad you can navigate around the table, select the seat you want etc. Enter the amount to play for and confirm with the ‘OK’ soft button on your phone (If there is a minimum buy-in at the table, this will be displayed). Choose if you want to post a blind right away or if you want to wait for your turn by pressing [1] or [2].

As you can see, the screen inscriptions are quite small, and you have to be very attentive. Basically you have three keys for the navigation: 1 – fold, 2 – call, 3 – bet/raise. In case of unlimited poker, if you bet or raise you open the window, where you can enter a sum (or type it on the keyboard, or add little by little with a joypad). All in all, the interface is quite all right, and I didn’t have any serious problems, especially in the limited poker. The program consumes not so much traffic, even comparing to a mobile casino; in half an hour I used less than 200 Kb.
