Cape Canaveral Colt, Birdstone Filly Top 2022 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale

The 2022 Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) Thoroughbred Sale took place Friday, Sept. 16 and posted gains in gross and average sale price, led by a pair of yearlings that sold for $35,000 (Canadian).

A total of 35 yearlings sold during the auction at Westerner Park in Red Deer, Alberta, for revenues of $443,600. That marked an improvement over the 2021 renewal, when 37 yearlings brought $405,600.

The average sale price rose to $11,090 from $10,962, while the median fell to $4,750 from $9,000.

Two horses tied for the day's highest price at $35,000: a colt by Cape Canaveral and a filly by Birdstone.

Karlene Kingston, agent, purchased the Cape Canaveral colt, named When U Know U Know.

The dark bay or brown colt is out of the stakes-winning Kafwain mare Lil Missknowitall, and he is a full-brother to two-time Alberta champion Pearl of Knowledge. He is also a half-brother to stakes winner Common Knowledge.

Consigned by Starline Thoroughbreds, the Alberta-bred colt hails from the family of stakes winners Honeymoon Cruise, Tuff Britt, and Kayla M.

The partnership of Everblack Cattle Co., Stetson Enterprises, and Ryan Stetson purchase the other co-topper, a filly by Birdstone.

The dark bay or brown filly is out of the stakes-winning Dixie Union mare Silkworm, whose first two foals to race are both winners.

Bred in Ontario and consigned by Moonshine Meadow Ranch, the filly's family includes Grade 1 winners Flute and Weep No More, as well as Grade 2 winner Filimbi and Grade 3 winner Art of Almost.
