Canterbury Park Brings Back 10 Percent Takeout On Post Time Pick 4, Pick 5

Canterbury Park will again offer a 10 percent takeout $.50 Pick 4 wager that will begin with the first race each day as well as a 10 percent takeout $.50 Pick 5 on the final five thoroughbred races daily. The takeout rate on both wagers is an industry low, resulting in a larger portion of the wagering pool being returned to winning bettors.

The 'Post Time Pick 4' requires the participant to select in order the winners of four consecutive races, placing the bet before the first race begins. A successful pick 5 wager requires winners in five consecutive races. Both are traditional wagers distributing the full pool less takeout to bettors selecting the first-place horse in each leg of the wager.

Canterbury Park's 54-day race meet runs May 27 through Sept. 16.

“We are very pleased to again offer an industry low 10 percent takeout on these wagering options,” Sr. Director of Racing Chris Merz said. “We are able to give more back to the betting public and also draw additional attention to our entire racing program.”

A record daily average $1.525 million was wagered on Canterbury's races in 2022.

New this season will be an 'All-Turf' Pick 3 wager with a $1 base and a 14 percent takeout offered primarily on Wednesday programs when weather and turf races allow.  The pick 3 sequence will consist of three turf races, not necessarily run consecutively.

“With turf popularity on the rise, we listened to what bettors wanted, providing them with an all-turf pick 3. We believe this bet will provide an appealing option to bettors looking for larger fields and a robust array of turf options,” Merz said.

Canterbury will race on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 5 p.m. central and on Sundays at 1 p.m. as well as Memorial Day, July 3 and Labor Day Mondays. Six consecutive 5 p.m. Thursday cards will be conducted beginning July 13.
