Horse racing fans who want to own a piece of history, special memorabilia from a favorite racehorse, or have the opportunity to take a private tour of a famous Kentucky Thoroughbred farm, can also help support a Central Kentucky community's youth sports team.
The GMS 12th Man Football Boosters online auction offers a number of unique items that can be viewed at https://www.32auctions.com/helpourherd.
Among the auction's highlights are authentic leather halters worn by famous racehorses and stallions such as California Chrome, Olympiad, and Liam's Map, and even a halter worn by multiple Eclipse Award winner and perennial fan favorite Songbird, generously donated by her owner, Mandy Pope. This auction also features the special opportunity to go behind the scenes with a private tour of famous farms, including WinStar, Spendthrift and Denali Stud.
For other sports fans in the family, additional auction items include signed footballs and jerseys by Bengals legends Kenny Anderson and Boomer Esiason. Movie enthusiasts will enjoy an Iron Man DVD signed by Marvel Universe creator Stan Lee, or a Harry Potter movie series poster signed by the entire cast. There's even a chance to take to the skies with a Discovery Flight Experience, with 30 minutes of actual airplane flight time with a private instructor.
All proceeds of this auction will directly benefit the Georgetown Middle School (GMS) football program in Georgetown, Ky., and the fundraising effort has been spearheaded by local horsewoman Erin Fisher, owner of Harper Ridge Thoroughbreds, whose 12-year-old son Brayden plays wide receiver and defensive back for the GMS Buffaloes team.
“Our school's sports teams rely solely on fundraising, so every donation helps the athletes in our community by providing needed uniforms, transportation costs, equipment and gear for their middle school football season,” Fisher explained. “We started this year with no money but with a new head coach, who has been amazing at encouraging our boys towards a bright future while giving them a sense of family and brotherhood, so we want to support his efforts to provide a positive experience for every athlete.
“Being in Scott County and with our school district bordering many major farms, there is a big community of children here who have family involved in the horse industry,” Fisher added. “When we called around and asked for help, the Thoroughbred industry responded in full force, and we couldn't be more thankful to everyone for helping to make a difference in these kids' lives.”
