Taking Aim, dam of 2023 Saranac (G3) runner-up Taking Candy and in foal to champion Jackie's Warrior, sold to Dixiana Farms for $270,000 to highlight a solid day of trade during Sunday's fifth session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
An 8-year-old mare by Trappe Shot out of Winning Call, by Deputy Minister, Taking Aim is a half-sister to 2012 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner and sire Tapizar. She was consigned by KatieRich Farms.
Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds paid the day's second-highest price of $250,000 for Charmingly, a 3-year-old daughter of Curlin in foal to Maclean's Music. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for STH LLC, Charmingly is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Complexity and a full sister to Grade 3 winner Valadorna. Her dam is the Yes It's True mare Goldfield.
On Sunday, Keeneland sold 251 horses through the ring for $15,875,500, which decreased 14.84% from $18,641,500 for 246 horses sold last year. The average of $63,249 was 16.53% lower than $75,778 last year, and the median of $50,000 declined 16.67% from $60,000.
Through five sessions of the nine-day November Breeding Stock Sale, 1,058 horses sold through the ring have grossed $154,748,000. The total is 15.18% below the same period in 2022 when Keeneland sold 1,041 horses for $182,437,000. The average of $146,265 is 16.54% lower than last year's $175,252, and the median decreased 20% from $100,000 to $80,000.
Two horses sold Sunday for $240,000 each.
Sheamus Mills Bloodstock purchased the first, Fire Island, a 5-year-old daughter of More Than Ready offered in foal to Palace Malice, from ELiTE, agent. Out of the Giant's Causeway mare Enchanted Rock, Fire Island is a full sister to multiple Grade 1 winner and sire Verrazano and a half-sister to Grade 2 winner El Padrino.
Also bringing $240,000 to be the session's top-priced weanling was a colt from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Maxfield sold to Avocet Bloodstock. Indian Creek, agent, consigned the colt, who is out of the winning Speightstown mare In It for the Gold and from the family of stakes winner and Grade 1-placed All Due Respect.
ELiTE, agent, also consigned a weanling colt by Not This Time purchased by Boots Bloodstock for $230,000. Out of the winning Smart Strike mare Striking Impact, he is from the family of Grade 1 winner Competitionofideas and Grade 3 winner Devil by Design.
WinStar Farm paid $220,000 for the broodmare prospect Nalani, a 3-year-old daughter of Quality Road. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Juddmonte, she is out of the Distorted Humor mare Color Me Flying and is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-placed Colorful Mischief.
Dixiana Farms was the session's leading buyer, spending $420,000 for two horses.
Taylor Made Sales Agency led consignors with sales of $2,104,500 for 34 horses.
The November Breeding Stock Sale continues Monday and runs through Thursday, with every session beginning at 10 a.m. (ET).
