Colin Brennan Bloodstock and Wolf Creek Farms, along with Jay Goodwin as a contributing member, are pleased to announce the launch of Straight Line Equine Sales.
The sales company will offer consignments at yearling and breeding stock sales, with a focus on providing individual sales and management services to each of its clients. Straight Line makes its debut at the Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Sale in July.
Colin Brennan, Kristin Brennan, and Austin Winfrey will manage the consignment and client relations at the sales, while Troy Winfrey and Jay Goodwin will be instrumental in managing horses behind the scenes. The partnership brings with them over 70 years of combined experience in the horse industry, including training, sales prep, and consignor experience with a reach that covers several markets, including Kentucky, Florida, Maryland, and New York, as well as regional locations in Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma.
Colin Brennan started his own yearling consignment, Colin Brennan Bloodstock, in 2019 and has successfully sold horses at Saratoga, Keeneland, Maryland, and OBS. What started as a business to sell primarily his own pinhooks has grown into something much bigger thanks to support from friends and clients.
“I am excited for the unique opportunity to co-found Straight Line Equine Sales,” Brennan said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for everyone on our team and I believe collectively we will be able to satisfy clients in various sectors of the market.”
Colin brings experience from leading professionals in multiple facets of the Thoroughbred industry. He has earned multiple degrees in Equine Management and is a graduate of the Godolphin Flying Start program. His professional experience includes two years with Stonestreet Farm's training and racing division in Florida and five years as an assistant trainer with his father, Niall Brennan, a well-known consignor of 2-year-olds.
Kristin Brennan grew up in the Thoroughbred industry and started working at sales at a young age. She was an accomplished rider on the collegiate level while pursuing a business degree.
Following graduation, Kristin completed an internship with the Saratoga Special before continuing to travel and work sales, eventually settling in Kentucky. Kristin Brennan spent six years at the historic Calumet Farm in Lexington, Ky., where she served as an assistant yearling manager and successfully spearheaded the re-birth of the Calumet sales consignment. Kristin will move into the role of Director of Sales for Straight Line Equine Sales with a wealth of knowledge, strong work ethic, and a passion for horses.
Troy Winfrey has over 30 years of horse training experience that started with training and running Quarter Horses before ultimately transitioning to Thoroughbreds.
In 2000, he and his wife April formed Wolf Creek Farms, shifting their focus from racing to the pinhooking business where they concentrated almost entirely on moving yearlings to the 2-year-old market. In 2007, the farm transitioned into pinhooking weanlings to yearlings. Now, Wolf Creek Farms looks to add another feather in their cap, breaking into the sales and consignment sector in 2023.
“I am looking forward to this new venture,” Winfrey said. “I believe our team brings strength in front-line sales as well as horse management in the barns – the perfect combination of talent.”
Troy's background in breaking, training, and fitting yearlings provides him with great insight into the type of yearling that works well in the sales ring. His focus is on making a profit, but his love of the horse is what makes him exceptional at delivering each horse at its best come sale time.
In lockstep with his father, Austin Winfrey grew up with Thoroughbred horses as the family business. After completing his studies in equine management in May 2019, Austin moved to Lexington and began work at Denali Stud, where he gained experience in yearling prep, client experience, and sales. He once again joined his father in 2020 when the family moved Wolf Creek Farms back to Kentucky. Austin has been instrumental in forming and managing client relationships for the farm, a role he will continue with Straight Line.
Jay Goodwin joins as a contributing member and brings a wealth of sales experience and vast connections in the industry. He has over 15 years of experience working with sales consignments as a partner in Select Sales and an account manager for Eaton Sales. Most recently he served as a partner in KP Sales. Throughout his career, he has sold 16 Grade 1 winners.
You can find Straight Line Equine Sales at the Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Sale in July, followed by stops in Saratoga and Texas in August, and the Keeneland Yearling sale in September. For inquiries or questions reach out to straightlineequine@gmail.com.
