With longshot Slam Dunk Sermon rolling home under Kyle Frey to win by one length in Friday's eighth and final race at Santa Anita, one lucky ticket in the Arcadia, Calif., track's popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot rewarded its owner with a $436,787.25 payoff.
Off at 8-1 in a field of nine older horses going 6 ½ furlongs for a $20,000 claiming tag, Slam Dunk Sermon, in his second start for trainer Alfredo Marquez off a $16,000 claim at Golden Gate Fields on Feb. 27, rallied three-deep turning for home and was never challenged thereafter in what amounted to an easy win.
Purchased for 20 cents as part of an overall batch betting investment of $1,972.60, Friday's winning ticket was generated through the Maryland-based Hunt Valley wagering hub.
Friday's winning Rainbow Six numbers and win mutuels are as follows: R3, #1 ($16.40); R4, #1 ($11.40); R5, #2 ($11.60); R6, #2 ($8.60); R7, #3 ($6.20) and R8, #10 ($19.00).
There was a Single Ticket Rainbow 6 carryover coming into Friday of $365,340. With $93,629 in new money wagered, Friday's total Rainbow 6 pool was $458,969.
First post time for a 10-race card on Saturday is at 1 p.m. with admission gates opening at 11 a.m.
