She is a half-sister to GSW G1 Hong Kong Champions Mile third Simply Brilliant (GB) (Frankel {GB}) out of G1 Fillies’ Mile heroine Red Bloom (GB) (Selkirk). Rivals to the Clive Cox trainee feature Aidan Ryan’s Brave Blossom (Ire) (Mayson {GB}), who is a Richard Fahey-conditioned half to Group 3-winning duo Valeria Messalina (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) and Pincheck (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) produced by a sibling of G1SW sires Kingsfort (War Chant) and Prince Arch (Arch).

Starlight Racing Adds New Members

Corbin Blumberg, a recent graduate of the Godolphin Flying Start program, and Elinor Wolf have been added to the staff at Jack and Laurie Wolf’s Starlight Racing.

Prior to his Flying Start participation, Blumberg worked for his mentor, Graham Motion, the British Horseracing Authority, the Breeders’ Cup and the Maryland Jockey Club. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a B.S. degree in Equine Science and Management, Blumberg will communicate with Starlight and StarLadies trainers at home and abroad, will attend the sales and provide partners with an enhanced racing experience.

Elinor Wolf, the daughter of Jack and Laurie Wolf, is a recent graduate of the University of Colorado, with a B.S. in Advertising and Strategic Communications. Captain of the school’s lacrosse team during her senior year, she has been free-lancing for Starlight and StarLadies since the coronavirus outbreak put an abrupt end to the season. Elinor will oversee marketing, advertising and bloodstock related activities for both Starlight and StarLadies Racing.

“Laurie and I are thrilled to welcome Elinor into the business which is really just our passion,” said Starlight Racing’s co-managing partner Jack Wolf. “Elinor has grown up in this industry and she knows us better than anyone. We really could not have anyone who is in a better position to share our story. As for Corbin, he came to us as an extern from Godolphin Flying Start and I’ve been impressed with him from day one. I think he’ll really add value to us and our partners.”

Tabdeed Eyes Betfair Sprint Cup

Tabdeed (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire})’s connections are mulling a start for the group winner in the G1 Betfair Sprint Cup S. at Haydock on Sept. 5. The six-furlong event would be the gelding’s first crack at the top level. Representing the blue-and-white silks of Sheikh Hamdan, the sparingly raced 5-year-old ran second in a Newcastle all-weather handicap on June 27, and earned his first group win in the G3 Hackwood S. at Newbury back on grass on July 18.

Trainer Owen Burrows said, “We will give him an entry in the race and see what it looks like. If we are happy with him then we may as well roll the dice while he is well within himself.

“We always thought he was decent. He hasn’t really done a lot wrong and though he was beaten on his comeback at Newcastle the winner of that race, Glen Shiel (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), won a Group 3 at The Curragh on Sunday so his form has a pretty solid look.”

The Jockey Club to Host Virtual Round Table Sunday

The Jockey Club’s 68th annual Round Table Conference on Matters Pertaining to Racing will be held virtually Sunday due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference will discuss the need for reform in medication rules and testing, challenges faced by the Thoroughbred industry and insights into the claiming system and will be streamed on The Jockey Club’s website jockeyclub.com beginning at 10 a.m. The event will also be aired on TVG and Racetrack Television Network platforms.

“While we are disappointed that we cannot host an in-person event, we are excited by this year’s line-up of speakers and the perspectives they will share with the conference’s virtual attendees,” said James L. Gagliano, president and chief operating officer of The Jockey Club.

Gagliano will interview three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond about anti-doping and the importance of clean competition. Trainers Mark Casse, John Gosden and Jessica Harrington will discuss training and competing in different jurisdictions in a panel moderated by Matt Iuliano, executive vice president and executive director of The Jockey Club.

Bob Costas, former sportscaster for NBC Sports and current sportscaster for MLB Network and contributor to CNN, will discuss covering the Triple Crown races and the challenges faced by sports in 2020. Sal Sinatra, the president and general manager of the Maryland Jockey Club, will present on America’s system of claiming races and recommend changes and Katrina Adams, the immediate past president of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), will discuss the importance of diversity.
